The company has a proud heritage stretching back over 120 years. Founded in 1887 as a trader in cork, we quickly moved into the manufacture of cork stoppers, and then into the complete manufacture and assembly of cork stoppers with pressed metal decorative tops. These were very widely used in the alcoholic spirits and drinks markets. As supplies become more difficult, the popularity of cork waned and gave way to pre-threaded caps and lids made of Aluminium & Tinplate. Once again, Roberts was at the forefront of this development.

In the 1960's/70's, international patents made it difficult for us to follow the Twist-off and Pilfer-proof closure developments on any scale, and so it was necessary for the company to evolve along a slightly different path. Today, they we remain Europe's leading manufacturer of pre-threaded screwcaps, Roberts is also the UK's premier trade manufacturer of godets (shallow metal pans/dishes into which cosmetic powders and make-up is pressed), and they are a world leader in the design and production of small metal pots, jars and containers.
