Aluminium & Tinplate are readily recycled and have been for many years through a well established collection and recycling infrastructure. UK recycling targets have been consistently met and supporting data, together with associated information, can be found on the following websites:

www.scrib.org.uk (Steel Can Recycling Information Bureau)
Aluminium can be melted down and re-used time and time again. Recycling aluminium rather than manufacturing it from alumina, saves significant amounts of energy! In fact, recycling one aluminium container saves enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours.
Tinplate (steel) is also recycled. It takes about 75% less energy to recycle steel than to make it from iron ore. Because steel is magnetic, it is easy to sort. Large magnets at recycling plants separate the steel from other metals. In 2003 2.5 billion steel cans were recycled.
Technical innovation also continues to contribute to metal’s “green credentials” through down-gauging and structure design initiatives As well as leading the way in the recycling of packaging, metal also provides other packaging benefits in terms of long term storage of food and other products reducing the need for unnecessary waste going to landfill.
