Smurfit Kappa makes it easy for customers at easyFairsPaper-based packaging manufacturer Smurfit Kappa will show a suite of tools to help customers make the right packaging choices at easyFairs Packaging Innovations at the NEC, 12th & 13th March 2008.

At the show for the first time, the company will showcase its Innobook, a global database for the creation of innovative packaging solutions, Merchandising Wizard merchandising unit design system and its commitment to environmental issues and recycling.
Innobook Drawing on the expertise of 350 Smurfit Kappa packaging designers in 31 countries, Innobook uses the imagination of all design departments within the Smurfit Kappa group to show the newest and most innovative packaging designs and practical RRP units available. Innobook is constantly evolving: it contains images of thousands of packs, is constantly updated with new designs.

It shows brand owners the most creative and practical RRP options for their products so that the right brief can be agreed – and quickly.
Adrian Bird, Sales and Marketing Director said: “By using Innobook, our customers can see Smurfit Kappa’s most innovative and practical designs for each product in one place and identify their favourite functions and features. This creates a detailed brief for our designers, who can then use that information to design the perfect RRP for their product in just a few days.”
Innobook will be on show at easyFairs and visitors can book sessions to configure their perfect packaging with Smurfit Kappa consultants on the stand.

Merchandising wizard Smurfit Kappa has created the Merchandising Wizard, a tool which simplifies specifying merchandising units by helping customers choose the right components for each unit. The Merchandising Wizard leads to units that protect products and present them in the attractive way compatible all systems used by the major retailers without adding unnecessary cost.
Increasingly, retailers are asking for products to be supplied in merchandising units because they help to drive sales of high volume, fast selling products by maximising the availability of stock at all times by speeding up the logistic throughput from back of store to front of store.
Many suppliers are confused about merchandising units, and are concerned that they may reduce the impact of product at the point of purchase while also adding a significant cost and supply chain complications to their business.

In the UK, corrugated cardboard has an 84% recycling rate – the highest recycling rate of any packaging material. Once used in store, corrugated packs such as retail ready packaging, merchandising units and other types of secondary packaging are baled and sent to recycling plants – where they can be used in packaging again. This truly closed recycling ‘loop’ means that an old box can be remade into a new one within two weeks. Where recycling facilities are not available, corrugated boxes can be composted as they are biodegradable.
