BRAMLAGE Expertise Supports Breakthrough of the TASSIMO Beverage System

BRAMLAGE Expertise Supports Breakthrough of the TASSIMO Beverage System
RPC Bramlage’s injection moulding expertise has been instrumental in the development of the T-DISC, the unique brewing device used with Kraft Foods’ revolutionary TASSIMO beverage system.

TASSIMO system is the first single-serve on demand system for home use capable of brewing a full spectrum of hot beverages – including filter coffee, café crema, tea, espresso, cappuccino, and chocolate – directly into the cup. Quality is assured thanks to the premium brands used by TASSIMO, including SUCHARD, TWININGS and CARTE NOIRE.

The system’s innovative function relies on the patented T-DISC, designed to work exclusively with the TASSIMO brewer. Each sealed T-DISC contains a precisely measured amount of product with essential information such as the amount of water, brewing time and temperature contained in a barcode on the label. The internal components of the T-DISC guide the flow of water to brew the perfect cup.

RPC Bramlage and Kraft Foods have spent two years developing the T-DISC to ensure its high functionality. The design incorporates geometrical principles and fluid dynamics more commonly used in Formula One motor racing. The T-DISCS are injection moulded using state-of-the-art stack moulds.

With different T-DISCS available already for chocolate, cappuccino, espresso, filter coffee and tea, Kraft has the flexibility to extend the products beyond the current range.

RPC Bramlage has also created a novel system of flexible conveying to deliver the components to the assembly line, which includes 100% vision systems for the inspection of all single components and assembled packs.

The completed T-DISCS are filled, sealed and packed at various Kraft Foods sites in Germany.

TASSIMO was initially launched in France in June 2004 with other countries to follow soon. Demand has been very strong and RPC Bramlage will significantly increase its corresponding production capacities during 2005.

“RPC Bramlage has proved to be an inspired and experienced partner, meeting all requirements on development, timing and production,” comments Mark Boswell, Manager, Global Sourcing of Kraft Foods.
