As one of the UK's largest food manufacturers, Northern Foods is turning out over 6,000 products and are a major supplier of own-label products for the likes of Marks & Spencer, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrison's and Asda, as well as being the company behind well-known brands such as Fox's Biscuits and Goodfella's pizzas.

Fox’s Biscuits started in 1853 and joined Northern Foods in 1977 and are using cushion pads in its Creations range as well as retailer brand assortments. “BCP is one of only a small number of companies in the UK that can produce 3-ply paper cushions,” says Stephanie Gaunt, packaging technologist for Fox’s Biscuits. After being with Fox’s for a year and a half, Stephanie’s role involves looking at all aspects of packaging design, looking into efficiencies and looking after the product all the way to the shelf.

“The cushion allows us to print on one side, meaning we can print different biscuit descriptions, highlight any promotions or offers on the top layer. The subsequent layers are left plain, but by printing on one layer our customers benefit from the information we can provide.”



The cushion pad also has a functional purpose, cushioning the biscuits whilst in transit, helping Fox’s deliver high quality goods to customers and not a lorry load of broken biscuits!

George Wilson, operations manager at BCP Patersons in Glasgow has been with the company for 24 years and believes the key to BCPs cushion pad success is simple, ‘We were the first manufacturer in the UK to produce cushion pads and have a lot of experience in making our cushion pads of the highest quality.’
