Huhtamaki's plastic soup cup replaces metal cans

Huhtamaki's plastic soup cup replaces metal cans Huhtamaki's new soup cup is a perfect substitute for traditional cans. The new plastic cup has a high insulation effect and can be magnificently decorated with a shrink sleeve.

"Packing new modern lunch soups in new innovative plastic packaging with shiny decoration, ensures that the product stands up from stores' crowded shelves", says Jez Allman Commercial Business Units Manager Consumer Goods, Huhtamaki UK."

Developed in Huhtamaki UK's Portadown unit, the new soup cup has serrations that leave air between the shrink sleeve and the cup, thus enabling insulation. The barrier capabilities can be tailored to customer specific shelf requirements e.g. 30 days to 18 months.

The cup is closed with a heat sealable film. The cup can be used to target soups, light meals and snacks; it can be microwaved and is nice to eat directly from.

"The polypropylene cups (324 ml and 385 ml) are thermoformed and may be barrier or non-barrier to replace metal and glass. Furthermore, the cups are retortable for storing in ambient conditions", says Mr Allman. "The cup can be shrink sleeved in Huhtamaki's own facilities in Turkey, Poland or UK and it suits for hot filling. The finish on the shrink sleeve allows high decorative graphics with various effects possible, from the rim to the base using the various films which are available. Huhtamaki has extensive partners who are able to supply the shrink sleeve. Huhtamaki Ronsberg is able to supply the barrier film or foil for sealing the various food products."

"As time becomes new currency, busy consumers demand colorful counters with fresh and attractive food. Huhtamaki's new soup cup rounds up the customers' product as something special - attracting attention at the supermarket shelves."
