Through continual innovation and excellent lines of communication with client Interbrew, Polimoon have arrived at the Mark IV version of the famous draught beer widget.
Consumers of canned beer have accepted for years that the canned version is not of the same quality as the draft equivalent and the introduction of draft beer in a can in 1992 was real innovation.
In 1993 Polimoon Packaging won the contract to supply 40 million units within the first year. The need for lower cost and more efficient versions has led to the production of the MK IV version which requires less energy, manpower and materials to make.
The MKI widget was bulky and was inserted into the bottom of the can during the production process. It contained nitrogen gas which was automatically released as the can was opened, forcing bubbles through the beer. The latest design, produced by Polimoon Packaging, known as a ‘scavenger widget’, floats on the surface of the beer and takes up gas under pressure when the can is filled and sealed. It then releases a burst of gas into the beer when the can is opened.
The mark IV version has provided significant savings in production costs, particularly with the customer's filling process, energy requirements and materials, making the latest widget considerably more environmentally friendly.
With up to half a million widgets being produced every day Polimoon Packaging constantly monitor changes in demand and quality of production to ensure that high quality stocks are released on time and within budget.
