Monkhill’s new PET jars, produced by RPC Blackburn in sizes from 850g to 1.2kg with lids from RPC Halstead, include popular varieties such as Toffee & Éclairs and Lemon & Strawberry Bon Bons, sold under the Sharps brand, and Mint Mix from Barker & Dobson. The launch is positioned directly at consumers to bring back memories of the time-honoured sweet shop and the jars have been introduced as a treat or gift item and as an alternative to the usual boxes of chocolates.

As a result, it was important to create the right image and impression on-shelf and Monkhill Confectionery chose shrink sleeves from Decorative Sleeves as the ideal solution.

“Sleeves’ all-over decoration provides the perfect solution to showcase the variety, colour and abundance of sweets in order to tempt consumers in,” explains Gill Lanty, Confectionery Brands Marketing Manager for Monkhill Confectionery.

“We could have used a traditional label and let consumers see the wrapped sweets through the jar, but the sleeve enabled us to display great quality, detailed photographic representations of the sweets themselves that really show them off to their full potential.”

The sleeves are UV flexo printed in seven colours onto high shrink PVC, which fits snugly around the contoured containers. UV flexo was considered the perfect choice both for its high quality photographic reproduction and the short run requirements of the project and Decorative Sleeves’ in-house platemaking facilities provided quick turnaround and low cost origination.

A working party of Decorative Sleeves, Monkhill Confectionery and pack designer V4 Studios ensured a fast development process from initial concept to final launch. “We chose Decorative Sleeves as our sleeve supplier because the company is an expert in this field and was able to offer us plenty of guidance throughout the design development stage,” concludes Gill Lanty. “The result is a really great range of packs.”
