Finnish drinks brand Olvi will be the first customer to take advantage of eSMArt, allowing them access to a unique password protected database, which records every piece of artwork they have submitted to Rexam and how it has been translated into a can layout. Olvi will be able to track the workflow as its artwork is reproduced through the can making process, and view images of the final layout ready for approval. Olvi will also be able to view details of which cans Rexam is currently manufacturing on its behalf.

Rexam is giving customers access to this system to ensure that all communication is up to date and that changes can be made quickly and easily. By working in even closer co-operation, customer and manufacturer both have the information they need to manage their supply chains, ensuring cost and time savings to both parties. Rexam has been using the system as an internal workflow management tool since 2003 with links already established to European artwork studios and ink suppliers.

“Our partnership with Rexam gives us instant access to any information we may need at the touch of a computer key”, said Olvi’s Product Manager for Beers & Mineral Waters, Timo Partola. “ Plus, we have the reassurance that we are working ‘as one’ with our main can manufacturer.”
