MeadWestvaco, a leading global producer of innovative packaging solutions, recently unveiled a new concept family of carton that utilize multiple substrates to provide superior shelf presence and packaging flexibility. The new carton family, known as the HyperpackTM concept, allows food and beverage producers to uniquely design their retail packaging to attract more consumers and differentiate their products on store shelves.Introduced by MeadWestvaco late last year, the Hyperpack cartons represent one of the most innovative packaging concepts developed for today’s market. The futuristic cartons combine multiple substrates, pack styles and configurations to produce highly flexible and unique packaging solutions for customers. The cartons are designed to incorporate varying combinations of paperboard and plastic substrates and allow producers to mix pack trays and covers for more packaging and branding versatility.
“The Hyperpack concept is an extremely unique platform that gives marketers a wide range of flexibility,” says John Perkins, vice president of Business Development - Americas, MeadWestvaco Consumer Solutions Group. “The tray of the Hyperpack carton provides the majority of the carrier’s strength and can be designed to hold variable quantities of product in differing configurations. The top portion of the carton can be constructed of a wide array of substrates, including plastics, and can be custom designed to meet marketing objectives and budgets. It is this top portion that provides the graphic billboard space and differentiates this package from others on the store shelves.”
Developed in tandem with the HypertechTM packaging machine, the concept system allows for seamless carton filling and speedy distribution to retail environments. Once in retail channels, the unique qualities of the Hyperpack concept cartons draw consumers’ attention and allow for brand differentiation. Utilizing the same bottom tray portion, producers can choose varying pack styles and substrates for the top cover of the carton to distinguish their brands on store shelves. Whether a producer chooses to showcase a premium brand using sophisticated plastic substrates or packages a budget brand using a paperboard crate style top, the Hyperpack concept cartons provide extensive billboard space and introduce a new level of marketing flexibility for product promotion and in-store displays.
As with all MeadWestvaco packaging products, retail and consumer-friendly features enhance the new Hyperpack concept cartons. Durable, multi-ply handles make shelf loading easier and allow for more dependable transport home, while convenient opening features attract consumers and make for easier at-home pantry and fridge storage. Among the most consumer appealing and innovative new packaging technologies developed, the Hyperpack concept carton and Hypertech packaging machine are highly anticipated.
