Thanks to its special diameter, which differs from the typical 38 mm caps destined to the market of juices and soft drinks, this closure, developed for glass and PET bottles, enables to penetrate interesting niche markets: those of beverages filled in containers that the consumers can always bring with them, as well as the segment of the functional/enriched drinks, which are often easily oxidizable and are drunk in moderate amounts by the consumers. This leads to a reduced size container, a “portable” one, requiring a closure having a smaller diameter than the typical 38 mm.

Bormioli Rocco did manage to seize this opportunity and is now developing together with its customers a technologically advanced closure, without nevertheless neglecting its appearance. The New Safe Cap Oxygen Scavenger can be ideal not only for soft drinks, but also for beer and wine filled in PET. Thanks to its barrier properties it absorbs the excess oxygen by safeguarding the organoleptic properties of the product.

As a matter of fact the barrier cap, thanks to its special seal can absorb the surplus oxygen present in the headspace of the container and simultaneously prevents oxygen penetration from outside, by thus increasing the products shelf-life. The cap turns out to be particularly innovative since the barrier starts being effective only during the filling phase.

This cap is formed through the assembly of two pieces obtained through injection and compression moulding. The external shell is made in polypropylene while the liner holds the oxygen scavenger. The vertical side features a knurl formed by 120 ribs which, further to favour an easy manual opening for consumers, are absolutely needed in the capping phase on the filling lines since they ensure an excellent grip of the screwing cone onto the cap.

The New Safe Cap Oxigen Scavenger contains no slip agents. This cap offers multiple customization opportunities, both as to decoration (serigraphy) and colour. As a matter of fact polypropylene, the material with which the cap is made, enables to obtain multiple colours with transparency effects on the outer shell or to keep the whole transparency of the cap while colouring the liner. The final effect is hence a chromatic combination ensuring an extremely pleasant impact.
