A new single-serve drinks pouch for alcohol invented by Jarrold R. Bachmann has been developed and manufactured by Amcor Flexibles. With a distinctive shape that resembles a miniature bottle, and a tear notch for easy opening and dispensing, the 50-ml flexible pouches are gravure-printed and converted by Amcor Flexibles Schüpbach in Switzerland and pouched at Amcor Flexibles Europouch in Demark. The pouches are made from a proprietary, three-layer, laminated film structure utilising a special grade PE especially developed for water and alcohol by Amcor Flexibles Raackmann, Denmark to ensure no taint to the product.
The pack graphics, produced by PackagingARTS, are designed to convey a sophisticated simplicity coupled with on-shelf impact.
Jarrold R. Bachmann says he got the idea for the portable shot of a range of 40% alc./vol. distilled 80 proof alcoholic beverages after he saw workers at his South African farm buy "simple, crude, twenty-five-millilitre plastic sachets of alcohol to celebrate payday."
Five varieties - Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey; Imported Caribbean Gold Rum; Premium, Triple Distilled Vodka; London Dry Gin; and Especial Gold Tequila, imported from Mexico - are filled and distributed by Frank-Lin Spirits and Fine Wines of San Jose, CA and are on sale in the US for a retail cost of $1.59 to $1.99. According to Mr Bachman, line extensions are in the pipeline, including several new sizes, a greater variety of spirits and mixed-drink versions.
