B.U. Plastics Bormioli Rocco & Figlio proposes new materials as part of its constantly innovative approach. In the aim of developing ever more performing containers, R&D has developed two materials. The passive barrier PET
The development of the PASSIVE BARRIER PET allowed enhancing the oxygen-barrier properties of PET bottles while maintaining a good transparency. As a matter of fact, the oxygen-barrier properties compared to those of the standard PET are recorded to be enhanced up to 10 folds.
Such bottles have been developed to satisfy the needs of the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food markets and are now being viewed with interest by some important clients.
They are food grade materials in compliance with European countries and US FDA standards, besides having received the approval by the European Pharmacopoeia Monograph 3.2.2.. They have also passed tests on global migration, thus resulting chemically inert.
The active + passive barrier PET
This new material, while ensuring good transparency, offers both a passive and an active barrier whose effect flags in time. The great news is that the ACTIVE BARRIER starts being effective only when the container gets in contact with the fluid, hence during the filling phase.
The ACTIVE+PASSIVE BARRIER PET is advisable for pharmaceutical products whose shelf-life is short, that is light and single-dose products.
The material proved to be suitable for food contact since it has been approved both by the European Food Contact Authority and the US FDA.
