The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) and Packaging New Zealand, are pleased to advise that submissions are now open for the 2019 Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design Awards (PIDA) which recognise companies and individuals who are making a significant difference in their field in Australia and New Zealand.

The Design Innovation of the Year company awards will recognise organisations that have designed innovative packaging materials within each of these five manufacturing categories:

FOOD
BEVERAGE
HEALTH, BEAUTY & WELLNESS
DOMESTIC & HOUSEHOLD
LABELLING & DECORATION *NEW AWARD

There will be three special awards available:

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING DESIGN SPECIAL AWARD
SAVE FOOD PACKAGING DESIGN SPECIAL AWARD
ACCESSIBLE PACKAGING DESIGN SPECIAL AWARD *NEW AWARD

In addition there are three awards designed for people who have made specific contributions to the packaging industry.

These Individual Awards will include:

YOUNG PACKAGING PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR.
INDUSTRY PACKAGING PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR.
PACKAGING NEW ZEALAND SCHOLARSHIP (This annual scholarship will offer one person from New Zealand the opportunity to enrol in the Diploma in Packaging Technology course; an internationally recognised and accredited course.)

The PIDA Awards are the exclusive award program for all Australia and New Zealand entries into the prestigious WorldStar Packaging Awards.

Technical Dinner (VIC) to discuss the Future of Soft Plastics

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP), in conjunction with SPE, will be running a technical dinner to discuss the Future of Soft Plastics on the 8 May in Melbourne and all of industry is invited to attend.

AIP Foodbank Volunteer Day (September)

AIP Members and industry colleagues are invited to participate in the Foodbank Victoria Warehouse Volunteering Program. The AIP Foodbank Warehouse Volunteering Program will provide you the opportunity to better understand how Foodbank works and will be a combination of picking and packing of on-line food orders and packing mixed grocery boxes.

O-I Sydney Site Visit

AIP Members and Industry Colleagues are invited to visit O-I Sydney facility which has been manufacturing glass containers in Penrith since 1971. Every day, around 4,000,000 beer, wine, spirit and soft drink bottles and food jars roll off the Penrith production lines.

AIP Foodbank Volunteer Day (July)

Coca-Cola Amatil Site Visit

AIP members and industry colleagues will be able to see Coca-Cola Amatil’s new bottling and warehouse facility, which is now the company’s largest plant in Australia.

Orora Botany B9 Paper Mill Site Visit

AIP Members and industry colleagues are invited to attend a site visit to Orora Botany Paper Mill on the 13 March. All attendees will have the opportunity to obtain an overview of the Recycling and Paper making side of the Orora business.

AIP Foodbank Volunteer Day (April)

Diageo site tour

With Diageo Australia producing close to 100 million litres of the world-famous brands attendees on Thursday 8th November will be able to tour the Huntingwood facility that comprises filling lines, mixing operations, raw material and finished goods storage together with quality control, maintenance and administration facilities.

AIP Annual Xmas Hamper Packing Day

Every year the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP), in collaboration with other industry associations, spend their Christmas Party differently. Rather than holding the standard Christmas Party the AIP Members are invited to be a part of something very special; packing 1000x Family Hampers and 300x Ladies Hampers which are given to Foodbank to help those in need during the holiday season.

AIP Foodbank Volunteer Packing Day

The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) is pleased to advise that our first Foodbank Victoria Volunteer Packing Day will be held on the 29th of October at Yarraville. The AIP Team will be split over two sections – the Mixed Grocery Hamper Section and the Pick Pack Food Order Section. With limited spots available for each packing day and a large list of Members interested, please ensure that you confirm your attendance as soon as possible.

AIP's VIC Christmas dinner

The AIP's VIC Christmas dinner will take place on November 23rd at the Quaff Restaurant in Toorak. The private dinner will be in the spacious upstairs Crystal Room, which has its own bar and outddor courtyard and will include three courses, beer, wine and soft drinks.

AIP National Conference dinner

Don't forget everyone is welcome to attend the conference dinner on Wednesday 1st of June irrespective of whether you attend the 2016 AIP National Conference. The Conference Dinner is a great chance to relax, network and catch up with your colleagues and clients.

AIP Annual General Meeting 2016

The AIP Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 31st May and all AIP members are invited to attend.

AIP Save Food Packaging Award Winners to be showcased at Interpack 2017

The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) has advised that they have signed a cooperation with Messe Düsseldorf/Interpack to realise the first and exclusive worldwide exhibition of 'Save Food' packaging solutions award winners. This exhibition will run at Interpack in May 2017 and will gather all the winners from across WPO Member Associations from across the world; the AIP Award winners included.

AIP Technical Lounge (NSW)

The AIP's technical lounge will cover the topic "Understanding the Australian recycling label & packaging recyclability evaluation portal (PREP)".

Call for papers closes Friday 22 January

Do you have a unique packaging and processing design or innovation that you would like to talk about? Submit a paper for consideration no later than the 22nd of January.

Site visit Jamestrong Packaging (VIC)

Attendees will have the opportunity to visit the Kyabram Food Can Manufacturing Facility where they will see the Tinplate food can and nutrition can manufacturing process.

Site Visit Multipack RETAIL and FOOD sites (NSW)

Multipack is Australia's leading FMCG contract packager, specialising in retail and promotional packaging of consumers goods on two distinct state-of-the-art sites – FOOD at Ingleburn, and therapeutics and household products at Moorebank. Attendees will start the tour at the Multipack head office and retail site at Moorebank and then head over to the new Multipack FOOD facility.

AIP February Technical Dinner (VIC)

February's VIC technical dinner will focus on "Understanding the Australian Recycling Label & the Packaging Recyclability Evaluation Portal (PREP)".

Site Visits Visy Beverage Can + Visy Board (QLD)

This site visit will provide attendees the opportunity to see both the state-of-the-art Beverage Can facility and the Visy Board site. The facility, costing approximately $86 million, is one of the most modern in the world.

Site Visit to Tooheys Brewery (NSW)

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the Tooheys Brewery Director about the processes and culture on-site as well as learn about the beer brewing process, the packaging of product and see first-hand the manufacturing process across the packaging hall and warehousing/dispatch hall.
