Berry Global and NEUE Water have each added two more wins to their growing award portfolio. Achieving first place in two categories at the Global Water Drinks Awards 2023, the luxury artesian mineral water bottle made of 100%* recycled PET (rPET) picked up ‘Best in PET’ and ‘Best New Water Concept’ at the ceremony.

Launched earlier this year, the unique ergonomic shape of the NEUE bottle enables it to fit into pockets, bags, and seatback storage in planes and trains as an on-the-go solution. The bottle’s sturdy construction makes it suitable for refilling for multiple uses, and it can be recycled at its end of life.

Innovative and sustainable

The multi-award winning rPET NEUE luxury water bottle, manufactured by Berry, has been commended for its innovative and sustainable design.

The flat shape of the luxury bottle would typically present challenges in the injection stretch blow moulding (ISBM) process for traditional PET bottle manufacturers. Berry Global’s technical expertise and recycled plastic experience played a crucial role in successfully adapting the technology to accommodate the uniqueness of the brand’s packaging for NEUE Water’s Founder, Michael Lowers.

Further complementing the innovative bottle packaging and fresh mineral water, the label plays an important role in its design. The label presents a canvas for limited-edition artwork that will continue to change around the fashion seasons, ensuring continuous shelf appeal. The inaugural collection featured six vibrant, one-of-a-kind prints by Berlin-based artist Studio Raaad.

Michael Lowers said: “We are delighted to see NEUE Water recognized by the Global Water Drinks Awards for its innovation. With the support and expertise of Berry Global, we have been able to create a fantastic bottle that perfectly combines convenience, style, and sustainability.”

“At Berry, we are incredibly proud to be working with customers like NEUE Water to develop solutions that support the move to a more circular economy,” said Joe Horton, Product Line Director, Berry Agile Solutions.

“It was great to be able to support Michael’s ambitious sustainability goals and help to make his concept a reality. It’s particularly rewarding to see the continued success and recognition of this circular project with these new wins at the Global Water Drinks Awards.”

Berry Global partnered with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. to improve the recyclability of food packaging with MXD6, a high-performance barrier solution for extruded articles, such as thermoformed items and extruded plastic tubes and bottles. The MXD6 barrier is recyclable up to 12% and received Critical Guidance recognition from the Association of Plastics Recyclers (APR), validating its compatibility with the Polypropylene (PP) recycling stream. Using MXD6 helps eliminate the performance and compatibility limitations of Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol (EVOH), including limited recyclability and reprocessing issues that cause degradation and contamination, and offers an alternative during material shortages.
