An award-winning inkjet coder from Linx Printing Technologies is enabling Hames Chocolates Ltd. to meet all deadlines through its market-leading combination of speed, reliability and quality of code.
At the company’s Lincolnshire factory, the Linx CJ400 runs for seven hours a day, coding between 80 to 120 units per minute. The exact amount depends on the products, which vary from individual chocolate bars to boxes of chocolate or fudge.
The Linx CJ400 delivers the best print quality on the variable line speeds at Hames Chocolates, while significantly minimising downtime, a key requirement for the company.
Key benefits include the printer’s outstanding portability, which allows operators to easily carry it between production lines, depending on where it is needed; its self-service maintenance and simple on-screen troubleshooting, which mean no engineers are required and operators can easily resolve issues; and its self-cleaning printhead that further minimises downtime.
The Linx CJ400 uses non-contact coding technology that enables it to print onto moving surfaces from the top, side, and underneath – while codes can also be changed quickly, without lengthy set up procedures. This flexibility is key to the high-intensity manufacturing operation at Hames Chocolates, with its extensive product range and frequent changeovers.
“Thanks to the Linx printer’s speed and great versatility, which minimises downtime,
we can meet our tight deadlines efficiently,” says Carol Oldbury, Director at Hames Chocolates. “On top of this, the codes it produces are very clear, which is extremely important in the food industry.
“This is our second Linx machine and, once again, we’ve been impressed. The troubleshooting system works well too - and the rare times we need to speak to someone, Linx solve the problem easily with advice over the phone.”
With 70 years of history, Hames Chocolates manufactures a wide variety of chocolate and confectionery products and supplies them, including as private label, to trade customers in every retail sector from specialist chocolate shops to garden centres to department stores.
Linx builds North American distribution for its range of coding and marking printers
Coding and marking specialist Linx Printing Technologies has appointed a number of new channel partners in North America to expand support for its product portfolio. A Linx 8900 Continuous Ink Jet (CIJ) printer is delivering improved all-round coding quality to French confectionery manufacturer Gida Confectionery. The company – which uses the Linx 8900 to print up to three lines, including ‘Use before’ dates, on all its confectionery products – originally approached Linx France in search of a more reliable coder after experiencing technical difficulties with its previous solution.
A Linx 8900 Continuous Ink Jet (CIJ) printer is being used for coding onto beer cans at a successful craft brewery in London. Since purchasing the Linx 8900 for its range of premium beers, Beavertown Brewery has praised the machine’s ease of use, compatibility with high-speed canning lines, and reliable operation in a damp environment.
Linx Printing Technologies has widened its range of specialist inks with the introduction of a new formula that meets the challenges of coding onto oily surfaces. Linx Black oil-penetrating ink 1062 is able to print effectively through light layers of oil onto a wide range of materials, including plastics, metal, glass and waxy surfaces. Linx 1062 ink also provides good adhesion on Oriented Polypropylene (OPP) and other plastic films, making it ideal for a variety of both industrial and food applications.

Linx delivers long-term benefits for dairy company
Reliability and low cost of ownership are key factors in the success of two Linx 7900 CIJ (continuous ink jet) printers incorporating head traversing units which are printing 40,000 yogurt pots every hour at leading Israeli dairy company Tnuva Eilon Tavor.
The reliability, flexibility and efficiency of two Linx 8900 CIJ (Continuous Ink Jet) printers installed at leading aerosol manufacturer and filler LMA Services has been a key factor in allowing the company to increase the number of hours it operates its production lines - from eight to 16 hours per day - giving it the opportunity to take on more business.
