May 2025 – Etten-Leur, Netherlands – Leading supplier of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) vitamin packers and pill jars, Pretium Packaging, has introduced a new line of lighter-weight packer bottles that reduce the use of plastic by up to 42%.
Well known for its tablet and gummy packaging in North America, Pretium now offers the widest range of straight sided PET packers in Europe and the UK. In its Etten-Leur facility, Pretium manufactures 20 sizes of PET packers, from 55ml to 950ml, and with neck finishes ranging from 38mm to 53mm.
In addition to the standard weight bottles, Pretium has recently undertaken a sustainability initiative to substantially lightweight its most popular sizes of PET packers. These lightweight options reduce the amount of material in each bottle while still maintaining performance in filling lines, during transportation and at retail. On average, the lightweight options use about 24% less plastic than their traditional counterparts, but select sizes are source-reduced by up to 42%.
According to Lisa Huett, Pretium’s Director of Sustainability and ESG, this product line is exceptionally suited for European sustainable packaging requirements. “Reducing the amount of raw materials in your packaging is one of the fastest ways to improve the carbon footprint of your packaging,” Huett says. “Combining a lighter-weight package with post-consumer recycled content really checks the boxes for responsible choice in packaging.”
Versatile packer bottles are typically used for pharmaceuticals, vitamins and nutritional supplements in pill, tablet or gummy form – but can also be used in personal care, food and consumer chemical applications. The clear, shatterproof and recyclable resin accepts colourants well. Bottles are available in both virgin resin and rPET.
