This creative City Kitchen pack was designed, developed and manufactured by the team at Robinson Packaging in Kirkby. In the range are two delicious products, the Chicken Miso with Ramen Noodles and the Vegetable Gyoza Shitake Broth.

The brief was to develop a pack that would keep carbohydrates and protein separate to the Ramen broth.  This is to ensure that the ingredients are crisp and fresh, up to the point at which the meal is consumed.

The Brand Team needed the pack to be tamper evident, be suitable for microwave reheating and be moulded from a high clarity, fully recyclable material.

Moulded from clear PP, the pack is suitable for recycling via most domestic kerbside collections. The packaging has been engraved with the PP recyclability and OPRL symbol in a prominent position on the face of the pack, to further encourage consumer recycling.

Lucy Howe, Category Lead at Tesco commented, “We believe that the new pack design showcases a simple but excellent design which not only delivers a restaurant quality meal to the consumer, the overall finish of the pack enhances the City Kitchen Brand and adds real value. We look forward to working with Robinson to develop further creative solutions, that will lead the fresh ready meal market.”

Steve Bell, Business Development Manager at Robinsons added, “We are very proud of each aspect of this project. We developed a concept that met the customers brief and delivered a product that exceeded their expectations within a very tight 15-week lead time. This is always what we aspire to do at Robinson."

The pack is shortlisted for the UK Packaging Awards 2018 for Rigid Plastic Pack of the Year.
