RPC's multi-process capabilities across its divisions has enabled newly-established car care and finishing specialist Roar Advanced Finishing to source the majority of its packaging requirements from one supplier.
RPC Superfos UK is supplying 1 and 2.5 litre polypropylene Paintainers®; RPC Promens Industrial Rushden is producing a 1 litre HDPE bottle; and PET Power has been able to meet Roar's need for a 1 litre PET bottle as well.
Established by a group of professionals with over 30 years' experience within the car refinish, automotive and composite finishing industries, Roar has developed a wide range of both professional and consumer products for the global market.
The variety of products calls for a number of different packaging formats but essential requirements for all packs are that they are practical, functional and reflect the quality image of the company, as director Rob Wilkinson explains:
"For these types of specialist products it is particularly important that the packaging is robust and provides effective protection. At the same time, the packs need to look good and be easy to use. Having worked with RPC before, I knew we could rely on the company to meet these requirements reliably and consistently."
The packs are being used for products such as Extreme Wax (the PET bottle), Extreme Fine Grade for removal of swirl marks (HDPE bottle) and Speed Cut Compound for removal of sanding marks (Paintainer). All feature Roar's distinctive orange and black colours to create high impact branding and effective on-shelf presence.
The HDPE and PET bottles are produced in orange and black respectively and both incorporate a large decoration area for glossy wraparound labels. For the Paintainers, the use of in-mould labelling provides all over coverage for a high quality decorative effect combined with room for detailed instructions on usage of the product.

Speedy one-stop solution for chewing gum
Mondelēz International, already a major customer of the RPC Group, was seeking a standard pack for the launch of its Trident chewing gum brand into the German market that could be produced within a short timeline without significant investment. Working together, the RPC Bramlage and RPC M&H Divisions devised a solution combining two standard products.
RPC Group has put together a series of short videos that aim to give a succinct and balanced response to some of the frequently asked questions on the issue of plastic packaging. Topics covered in the 60 second videos are the call to ban plastics altogether, an explanation of the plastics recycling process, the problems of ocean litter, the reasons behind the use of plastic in food packaging, and an understanding of the role of biodegradable plastics.

RPC cooperation agreement ensures efficiency
The diversity of packaging solutions available from within the RPC Group has been ideally demonstrated by a three-year cooperation agreement established between TINE, Norway’s largest producer, distributor and exporter of dairy products, and three companies within the RPC Group, covering a broad range of plastic packs, including containers, pails, pots and bottles.
RPC introduces cup recycling initiative
RPC Tedeco-Gizeh, the UK’s sole manufacturer of plastic vending cups, is launching a unique initiative to help customers recycle their used cups into valuable second life products. The company is working with its sister business from the RPC Group, RPC bpi recycled products, so that vending suppliers and operators who collect their own used cups can deliver them to the RPC bpi facility in Dumfries. There they will be reprocessed and blended with other recycled polymers for use in the manufacture of RPC bpi’s market-leading Plaswood.
Slogan reflects wide focus of RPC Safety Group
RPC Group’s annual Safety Week will take place this October with the theme ‘Protecting You, Me and Our Environment.’ Each year employees of the Group are invited to enter a competition to choose the slogan for the week’s activities. RPC Design create new grading system to highlight sustainability credentials of products
RPC Design has created a unique grading system that provides an easy visual guide to the sustainability credentials of each new pack it creates. The grading scale is based on the widely-used Recyclass system, developed by the Plastics Recyclers Europe organisation, which provides very good definitions of how recyclable a piece of packaging is on a scale of A to F.

RPC to highlight plastics' essential role

RPC celebrates apprentice success with focus on positivity
The RPC Group's Apprentice Academy in Oakham has been accepted onto the Government's Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers, enabling the facility to deliver nationally-recognised industry training. The announcement comes as the Academy marked its fourth anniversary with the awarding of certificates to celebrate the graduation of its first group of apprentices who embarked on their training following its official opening in December 2013.

Foam modelling fills a gap
The RPC Design team has completed construction on a purpose-built foam modelling studio that will enable its designers to rapidly make mock-ups of packs in order to test and modify them before release. The foam modelling studio provides customers with a chance to alter their packs' proportions and ergonomics before they commit, resulting in more effective and easier-to-use solutions.

Printer Brings a New Dimension to the Design Proces
A £220,000 investment in new equipment – including the latest in 3D printing technology – will enable RPC Design to further enhance its new pack development services. The new Connex 3 Objet 500 liquid polymer printer can print items – including a container with a label – in up to 5 litres in size and with a 0.8mm wall, enabling the early creation of physical designs for assessment and further adjustments.
RPC Group acquires British Polythene Industries plc
RPC Group has completed the acquisition of British Polythene Industries plc (BPI), a leading manufacturer and supplier of polythene films for a diverse range of end markets, including agriculture and horticulture, construction, industrial, healthcare and waste services, and retail food and non-food. The company has 19 manufacturing facilities in the UK, Europe and North America, employing around 2,000 people.
RPC's new solution awarded ScanStar
A thermoformed twist cup with an injection moulded screw lid, developed in close co-operation between Orkla Foods Norway, RPC Superfos and RPC Promens, has been awarded a ScanStar 2016 in the Nordic packaging competition. The innovative pack solution is being used for a new selection in Orkla's Denja range including shrimps, beans, chicken or beetroot.
All RPC Group's UK sites achieve ISO 50001
All UK sites in the RPC Group have achieved ISO 50001 certification for the implementation of a group-wide energy management programme, in line with the requirements of the ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) legislation. As part of its Climate Change Agreement (CCA), RPC is committed to reducing the company's Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) by a further 7.5% across its UK operations by 2020.

RPC's stylish cap is a joy to behold
Using advanced manufacturing and decoration processes, RPC beauté has created the luxury cap for the recently-launched Joy Forever by Jean Patou perfume, created by Designer Parfums. The stylish closure, which features a wide top and intricate detail on the stem to complement the attractive square-curved bottle, is injection moulded in ABS. The complex design involves the manufacture and assembly of several different components to achieve the overall effect.
