Smurfit Kappa has once again been recognised for its innovative design-led approach through seven highly prestigious WorldStar Awards - a celebration shared with valued customers including Mars, PepsiCo, O. Kavli and Unilever.

The seven awards, won by Smurfit Kappa designers in Austria, Germany, Sweden and the UK, demonstrate the success of the company’s collaborative approach to delivering innovative packaging solutions that offer customers real value and business success in their markets. Falling across a variety of sectors - including FMCG, food, transit and electronics - the wins are testament to the company’s range of expertise and global scale.

Smurfit Kappa’s solutions for PepsiCo, which included an iconic display for a new sharing concept created for Walkers, and a Football World Cup inspired display for Doritos, won praise for their innovative eyecatching designs, encouraging shoppers to make these their snacks of choice. An inventive point-of-sale solution for Galaxy was commended for keeping their ‘Little Treats’ standing upright and facing forward, in transit and in store, while Unilever’s Pot Noodle corrugated tray design was recognised for its environmental, logistical and retail display benefits.

Roberto Villaquiran, CEO Smurfit Kappa Europe, said: "It's an outstanding achievement for seven of our designs to receive WorldStar Awards from the World Packaging Organisation. The European teams are delighted to have been recognised on a global scale, and particular congratulations must go to the UK team for winning four awards.”

The WorldStar competition is the pre-eminent international award in packaging which exemplifies the continual advancements in packaging design and technology. Judging took place in Mumbai in October, where representatives from 17 packaging associations, and members of the World Packaging Organisation, judged 293 packaging projects from 35 countries. Awards are based on the judges' consensus that a pack is superior in its category and market and better in its class in execution or innovation by comparison to others.
