Smurfit Kappa sites around the globe get involved in Health & Safety Day activities

The event takes place each year to coincide with the International Labour Organisation’s World Health & Safety Day, celebrated by companies all over the world to promote safe and healthy work.

The theme for Smurfit Kappa this year is ‘Health & Safety for all’, highlighting the importance of working together and sharing experiences to bring safety awareness not only to its employees, but also to visitors, contractors, families and communities. 

All of Smurfit Kappa’s operations, across the 34 countries where the company has a presence, will carry out educational and training activities as part of this important initiative. Some of the events planned for this year include health checks, emergency and first-aid training, healthy lifestyle talks and family days, along with a personal video message from Group CEO Tony Smurfit which is available in all of the company’s 18 languages.

“The wellbeing of everyone at Smurfit Kappa is of the utmost importance to me, and that is why I am personally invested in making Health & Safety week a success and to always striving to achieve the safest environment for our employees, visitors, contractors, families and for the communities that we are privileged to work in. This week gives us the perfect opportunity to stop and think about safety inside and outside of the company, to review recent improvements in the workplace and learn new ways to make the lives of our employees safer and healthier,” said Tony Smurfit.

Smurfit Kappa showcases new Shelf Facer technology at successful Shopper Marketing event

Shelf Facer is a shelf-ready pack designed to boost product sales and raise brand awareness in-store. Trialed in a UK pilot scheme for premium cereal bar brand Stoats, the Shelf Facer led to an impressive 13.8% uplift in sales. Smurfit Kappa drew on insights from its ShelfSmart service and replaced Stoats’ existing pack with the Shelf Facer which has an in-built merchandising solution to maintain an attractive on-shelf presence.
