    Introducing Value Wheel by Stora Enso

    How do we choose the right material for different packaging purposes? Value Wheel by Stora Enso makes it easy to compare different packaging boards and papers and see how they meet different end use requirements. Value Wheel was developed by Stora Enso and pacproject and it was introduced for the first time at FachPack 2018.

    Packaging needs to fulfil several requirements in terms of performance, finishing, sustainability and the impression that you want to make. These four aspects are reflected in the sections of Value Wheel, and each section divides into more detailed attributes. The requirements vary a lot depending on the end use category, whether it is liquid packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, luxury packaging etc.

    Value Wheel shows the requirements of the selected category in a visual profile. You can also choose a paper or board product on Value Wheel and see how its features match with the category. All the products included in Value Wheel have been carefully evaluated and rated by experts in terms of each attribute, so the profiles you see on Value Wheel are actually based on the products’ technical features and properties.

    With Value Wheel Stora Enso wants to support communication between all stakeholders of a packaging project by simplifying complex information such as technical requirements, environmental and compliance needs and industry-specific knowledge, not forgetting the marketing aspect. Value Wheel brings all this together into an insightful tool that helps create attractive, efficient and functional packaging solutions from the best renewable materials fit for purpose.

    Value Wheel is based on the Packaging Wheel concept created by pacproject (© 2016 PACPROJECT GMBH). In addition to FachPack, Stora Enso will display Value Wheel at upcoming packaging exhibitions including Luxe Pack and Scanpack.

    Stora Enso starts the production of new-generation formed fiber products free from plastic and PFAS

    Stora Enso has started the production of formed fiber food service products at Hylte Mill in Sweden. The production ramp-up follows the investment announced in 2019 and enables the manufacture of products that are renewable, recyclable and biodegradable.     Stora Enso launches wood-fibre-based biocomposite solutions for cosmetics, food and luxury packaging

    Introducing DuraSense to new customer segments is another step on Stora Enso’s journey to gradually replace fossil-based packaging materials with renewable solutions. DuraSense is a blend of wood fibres and polymers, which can be fossil, bio-based or recycled. With DuraSense, Stora Enso offers customers a more eco-friendly alternative to plastics while improving sustainability performance and reducing carbon footprint. With the blend of wood fibres and bio-based polymers, it is possible to get up to 98% renewable content and, thus, reduce the dependency on limited fossil resources.

    Stora Enso and startup Sulapac have joined forces to develop renewable and biodegradable straws

    Stora Enso and Sulapac continue to combat the global problem of plastic waste by launching a demo for sustainable drinking straws at Slush 2018. The demo, which targets production on an industrial scale, is designed to replace traditional plastic straws with renewable ones. The straws are based on Sulapac’s biocomposite material – made of wood and natural binders – designed to be recycled via industrial composting and biodegrade in marine environments.
