    ACMI's amazing Twisterbox

    • ACMI

Twisterbox is the synonym of efficient layer formation. Invented by ACMI in 2001 and patented in 2002, the layer formation system has been appreciated by some of the most important names in the bottling industry on a worldwide scale, such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nestlé, Danone, Heineken, Refresco, to name a few.

In over 10 years of activity, the hundreds of machines installed have always satisfied customer expectations demonstrating unequalled reliability and efficiency. For this reason the continuous layer formation system is an indispensable element for the ACMI palletisers and a point of reference for customers requiring a high efficiency bottling line.

The Twisterbox system is characterized by a modular structure constructed in a solid steel tubular frame which profers robustness and solidity to the system. Inside this structure is the sliding conveyor belt along with the gripping "plier" modules. The conveyor belt is composed of a material which enables the optimal handling of any container type and is commanded by brushless motors.

The entire area is protected by a system with Lexan sliding doors which allows the inside of the machine to be viewed in full. The gripping module is the core of the system. Each module is characterized by an arm which moves in a longitudinal direction along with a robotised plier that moves in a transversal sense with respect to the product flow. The selection plier in turn, carries out both vertical movement, as well as a rotation movement with a maximum angle of 180º.

The Twisterbox may be configured with one, two or three selection pliers depending on the production speed requested by the customer. The latest technical improvements have substantially modified the selection pliers. The most recent pliers are constructed in carbon and are characterized by technical devices that have further improved their function, such as the concentric closing movement (for more precision), the partial closing movement (for a faster speed), and the increased tolerance between different formats (for fewer format changeovers).

The format changeover operation is one of the advantages of the Twisterbox layer formation system invented by ACMI, which regulates the movement and the opening and closing of the pliers with software. The operator activates the procedure from the control panel and does not have to intervene with the machine's mechanics.

Through many years of experience, ACMI has overcome different customer requirements, further developing the system and gaining unequalled know-how. Today the Twisterbox can handle any type of format or pack and may be adapted to any type of production speed. The system is capable of handling packs containing bottles of any dimension, plastic crates, cartons, trays, cluster of cans and glass bottles, packs of cans 2x2, loose bottles, large bottles of 3 or 5 litre size, food cans and briks. The maximum speed reached by the Twisterbox is 140,000 cans per hour packed in 2x2 formats without over-packing.

The latest evolution for the Twisterbox system has been the creation of the Compakt series of palletisers. On this new series of palletisers, unique in the market place, a telescopic trolley along with a fast, fixed palled type stretch wrapper with a spool measuring 1.000 mm and an electronic pre-stretching device of 400%, has been integrated inside the same structure of the Twisterbox. With this configuration a single element can carry out numerous end line functions - layer preparation, palletisation and stretch wrapping. All of these functions combine into a single machine which is commanded by a single operator panel, integrated in a single structure with high levels of efficiency and reliability. The latest Compakt system is the "HS" version which is a low level palletiser capable of reaching 520 layers per hour even with 2x2 packs.

    ACMI's sophisticated end-of-line handling system

In the province of Venice (Italy), the Coelsanus SpA factory is situated which is one of the most important Italian manufacturers of pickled foods. ACMI dealt with an end of line that handles four production lines through a sophisticated palletisation system. The multiliner palletiser can work both formats independently or handle them simultaneously alternating the two pallets depending on product availability. In this way, a constant palletisation speed is always guaranteed independent of whether jar or tin.
