The successful founder of APG, Helga Arminak, recently shared how she used her savings to start her own business in 1999 and more in this Q&A style interview. A Packaging Group is a global leader in the cosmetic and beauty packaging industry with an average product lead time from concept to customer in 6-12 months.
Q: Can you tell us a little about your experience in the Packaging industry and how you got to where you are today?
My first career job was at a global packaging company, where I worked for nine years, opening Asian and South American markets for them. I traveled and lived abroad a lot of the time. My dream had always been to do something in the cosmetics field. So, in 1999, I used $3,000 of my savings to start my own cosmetics packaging business – which I eventually sold. From there, there was a lot of trial and error, but I never gave up. I started APG nearly 4 years ago which focuses on personal care, cosmetics, and household packaging. We are continuously expanding and even opened a manufacturing facility in North America.
Q: Tell us about APG and how it is positioned in the Cosmetic Packaging sector?
Our main focus at APG is our dispensing solutions. We are highly focused on unique and sustainable dispensers that serve the mass market.
Q: What are your Geographical locations and reach?
We have our headquarters here in Southern California & A new facility in Ohio. In addition, we have locations in Asia, Portugal, and Brazil.
Q: How important is innovation and technology to what you do?
It is everything! The world is constantly evolving and changing, therefore we are constantly evolving and growing. Innovation is key to success in this industry. With 32+ global patents, we are committed to innovating and evolving with the times.
Q: How important is it to be a Women Owned company in today's business world?
It is extremely important in today’s world. We are proud of how far we have come and are excited for what the future holds for women. I am honored to be a part of such a powerful movement!
Q: Can you tell about the latest APG location in Defiance, Ohio, and why you decided on that location?
We chose Ohio because of the proximity to our customers. We want to create a seamless process when manufacturing parts, including shipping and freight. The excessive cost of freight and long lead times from overseas, lead us to our new facility. We want to offer our customers transparency, fast-lead times, quality product, and competitive pricing.
Q: What other changes has APG undergone over the last decade?
APG is constantly creating and designing innovation for our customers. In the recent years, we have designed a full line of patented, recyclable, omni-channel dispensers that have been awarded & recognized in the industry.
Q: What are the current challenges facing APG, and how do you expect to deal with them?
I think the biggest challenge right now is consumer education. New materials, new products, new demands, new trends – these come as no surprise. It is our job to educate our customers on these topics and provide realistic solutions. There will always be challenges, especially after the pandemic, but we are learning and adapting with the times. We don’t let a challenge bring us down and will work around the clock to support our customer’s needs.
