Building on a steadfast commitment to operational excellence

Berlin Packaging, the world’s leading supplier of plastic, glass, and metal containers and closures, announced its successful transition to ISO 9001:2015. This updated certification means that Berlin Packaging’s customers benefit by experiencing more precise, more reliable, and even faster execution than they enjoyed before.

ISO certification, which is governed by the International Organization for Standardization, is the internationally-recognized standard for the quality management of businesses. It applies to the processes used by the company to deliver products and services and to the activities performed to ensure the needs and expectations of customers are met.

ISO certification also demands that the company is always working to continuously improve its outcomes. ISO 9001 requires both internal audits and independent audits of an organization’s Quality Management System.

As the only rigid packaging company in its sector to maintain ISO 9001 certification, Berlin Packaging provides an unrivaled level of rigor, repeatability, and precision to its customers. Berlin Packaging’s ISO 9001 certification covers its operations, its sales force, and its in-house design division, Studio One Eleven.

Since 2004, the year the company first achieved ISO certification, Berlin Packaging’s Quality Management System has translated to thrilling customer experiences. These include more than 14 consecutive years of 99+% on-time delivery every month of warehouse shipments and 99+% of product shipments meeting all customer product specifications.

“Upgrading our ISO certification shows our commitment to quantifiable results, since it helps us execute more precisely and offer more advantages that others in the industry cannot,” said Bryan MacKenzie, Director of Quality for Berlin Packaging. “By holding ourselves and our manufacturer-partners accountable, we steadily implement improvements to our processes that ultimately benefit our customers.”

Beyond the unrivaled commitment to operational excellence and supply chain smoothness, Berlin Packaging further differentiates itself by requiring Customer Business Reviews as part of their ISO certification. The bi-annual reviews at top customers quantify the net income customers earn as a unique benefit of working with Berlin Packaging. Over the past three years, these ISO-related audits show customers earning more than $240 million more profit thanks to partnership with Berlin Packaging.

Berlin’s Quality Policy dovetails with this ISO 9001:2015 certification. The Quality Policy states:

At Berlin Packaging, we strive to have a positive impact on the income of our customers. This is done through providing packaging and service solutions that increase customers’ revenue, decrease their costs, and/or improve their productivity. Along with having a positive impact on income, we are committed to providing accurate and timely information and product to our customers while continuously looking for ways to improve our processes.

“Of the 400+ audits that I have completed, none of the companies mentioned ‘enhancing customer income’ as a part of their quality policy. Berlin… You are the first,” commented the auditor from Perry Johnson Registrars.
