RPC Group PLC acquires Manuplastics

Manuplastics announces it has been acquired by RPC Group PLC. RPC is Europe’s leading provider of rigid plastic packaging containers, with some 50 manufacturing plants across 18 countries, and generating annual revenues of £1.1 billion.

The existing Manuplastics product range will be significantly extended and complemented by the wide product offering available from RPC. The acquisition is therefore an exciting one for the company - they look forward to presenting customers with more choice as well as enhanced design and innovation capabilities.

Nigel Riley, formerly Manuplastics' Operations Director, has been appointed as General Manager; and Steve Haley will continue to be the Company’s Sales & Commercial Director. Manufacturing activities will also remain at the company's Wimbledon facility, and the group’s intention is for RPC Manuplastics to continue to service it's customers on a “Business as normal” basis.

Manuplastics has been incorporated into the RPC "Bramlage-Wiko" cluster of companies that specialise in personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food products.

On July 1st Berry Global Group, Inc. completed the acquisition of RPC Group Plc. The combination of Berry and RPC creates a leading supplier of engineered products and one of the world’s largest plastic packaging companies.

Speedy one-stop solution for chewing gum

Mondelēz International, already a major customer of the RPC Group, was seeking a standard pack for the launch of its Trident chewing gum brand into the German market that could be produced within a short timeline without significant investment. Working together, the RPC Bramlage and RPC M&H Divisions devised a solution combining two standard products.

Succint explanations

RPC Group has put together a series of short videos that aim to give a succinct and balanced response to some of the frequently asked questions on the issue of plastic packaging. Topics covered in the 60 second videos are the call to ban plastics altogether, an explanation of the plastics recycling process, the problems of ocean litter, the reasons behind the use of plastic in food packaging, and an understanding of the role of biodegradable plastics.

RPC impresses with versatility

RPC is one of the UK’s major recyclers of both rigid and flexible plastic and sustainability is a critical part of the company's design and manufacturing process. The supplier continually impresses clients with its ability to deliver the aesthetics and functionality that are equally important to deliver brand image and differentiation in competitive markets.

RPC cooperation agreement ensures efficiency

The diversity of packaging solutions available from within the RPC Group has been ideally demonstrated by a three-year cooperation agreement established between TINE, Norway’s largest producer, distributor and exporter of dairy products, and three companies within the RPC Group, covering a broad range of plastic packs, including containers, pails, pots and bottles.

RPC introduces cup recycling initiative

RPC Tedeco-Gizeh, the UK’s sole manufacturer of plastic vending cups, is launching a unique initiative to help customers recycle their used cups into valuable second life products. The company is working with its sister business from the RPC Group, RPC bpi recycled products, so that vending suppliers and operators who collect their own used cups can deliver them to the RPC bpi facility in Dumfries. There they will be reprocessed and blended with other recycled polymers for use in the manufacture of RPC bpi’s market-leading Plaswood.

Slogan reflects wide focus of RPC Safety Group

RPC Group’s annual Safety Week will take place this October with the theme ‘Protecting You, Me and Our Environment.’ Each year employees of the Group are invited to enter a competition to choose the slogan for the week’s activities. This year’s winning entry – from John Neath of RPC Design – reflects RPC’s view that the overall health and safety of everyone is strongly linked to our protection of the environment.

RPC Design create new grading system to highlight sustainability credentials of products

RPC Design has created a unique grading system that provides an easy visual guide to the sustainability credentials of each new pack it creates. The grading scale is based on the widely-used Recyclass system, developed by the Plastics Recyclers Europe organisation, which provides very good definitions of how recyclable a piece of packaging is on a scale of A to F.

RPC'S Responsibility Report encapsulates business approach

RPC Group has published its first Responsibility Report, setting out the company’s approach to doing business responsibly for the benefit of all its stakeholders, including employees, customers, investors, suppliers, and the wider community and environment in which the business operates. The RPC Responsibility Report offers detailed information and analysis on key areas of the group’s business performance.

Packs for the well-known Ladival sunscreen range have been given a facelift to ensure maximum on-shelf impact in pharmacies ahead of the forthcoming sunbathing season.

RPC to highlight plastics' essential role

The many positive benefits of plastics – in particular the material's contribution to a more sustainable world – will be highlighted on the RPC Group stand (A40) at this year's Packaging Innovations at the NEC. As well as packs made from 'Green' polyethylene produced from sugarcane, and from recycled plastics, the stand will showcase many of plastics' other environmental credentials.

RPC celebrates apprentice success with focus on positivity

The RPC Group's Apprentice Academy in Oakham has been accepted onto the Government's Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers, enabling the facility to deliver nationally-recognised industry training. The announcement comes as the Academy marked its fourth anniversary with the awarding of certificates to celebrate the graduation of its first group of apprentices who embarked on their training following its official opening in December 2013.

RPC Massmould in conjunction with RPC Astra Plastique (Global Expert Centre for Flip Top Sports Closures) have developed and industrialised a next generation sports cap that breaks new ground with its combination of enhanced consumer convenience and maximum product safety and integrity, along with a contemporary design.

Foam modelling fills a gap

The RPC Design team has completed construction on a purpose-built foam modelling studio that will enable its designers to rapidly make mock-ups of packs in order to test and modify them before release. The foam modelling studio provides customers with a chance to alter their packs' proportions and ergonomics before they commit, resulting in more effective and easier-to-use solutions.

RPC Group's Katherine fleet wins FPA Rising Star Award

Katherine Fleet, Sustainability Manager at the RPC Group, has won the inaugural Rising Star Award at the Food Service Packaging Association (FPA) Awards 2017. The award, which recognises a star of the future within the packaging industry, was presented to Katherine by celebrity guest Jo Caulfield at a ceremony at The Grand Hotel in Brighton.

Printer Brings a New Dimension to the Design Proces

A £220,000 investment in new equipment – including the latest in 3D printing technology – will enable RPC Design to further enhance its new pack development services. The new Connex 3 Objet 500 liquid polymer printer can print items – including a container with a label – in up to 5 litres in size and with a 0.8mm wall, enabling the early creation of physical designs for assessment and further adjustments.

RPC Group acquires British Polythene Industries plc

RPC Group has completed the acquisition of British Polythene Industries plc (BPI), a leading manufacturer and supplier of polythene films for a diverse range of end markets, including agriculture and horticulture, construction, industrial, healthcare and waste services, and retail food and non-food. The company has 19 manufacturing facilities in the UK, Europe and North America, employing around 2,000 people.

RPC's new solution awarded ScanStar

A thermoformed twist cup with an injection moulded screw lid, developed in close co-operation between Orkla Foods Norway, RPC Superfos and RPC Promens, has been awarded a ScanStar 2016 in the Nordic packaging competition. The innovative pack solution is being used for a new selection in Orkla's Denja range including shrimps, beans, chicken or beetroot.

RPC a roaring success for car care specialist

RPC's multi-process capabilities across its divisions has enabled newly-established car care and finishing specialist Roar Advanced Finishing to source the majority of its packaging requirements from one supplier. RPC Superfos UK is supplying 1 and 2.5 litre polypropylene Paintainers®; RPC Promens Industrial Rushden is producing a 1 litre HDPE bottle; and PET Power has been able to meet Roar's need for a 1 litre PET bottle as well.

All RPC Group's UK sites achieve ISO 50001

All UK sites in the RPC Group have achieved ISO 50001 certification for the implementation of a group-wide energy management programme, in line with the requirements of the ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) legislation. As part of its Climate Change Agreement (CCA), RPC is committed to reducing the company's Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) by a further 7.5% across its UK operations by 2020.

World Food Innovation Awards names 2 RPC solutions as finalists

The convenience benefits of two RPC packs have been recognised at the World Food Innovation Awards. The EasySnacking™ container from RPC Superfos and the Yowk packaging solution from RPC Bebo were both named as finalists in the Best Convenience/'On-the-Go' Packaging category.
