Bischof+Klein wins WorldStar Packaging Award 2023 for the U-Pack®

Bischof+Klein has won a WorldStar Packaging Award 2023! This time, we have won the award for the U-Pack® - recyclable.

The side gusseted bag for up to 50 kg bowled the jury over in the Packaging Materials and Components category as an important contribution to the sustainable circular economy. The packaging is up to 98 percent recyclable according to the CHI standard. This results in a potential recyclate yield of 100 percent for the packaging, therefore enabling it to be fully integrated into the circular economy.

Bischof+Klein has set itself the goal of integrating its versatile packaging solution completely into the circular economy. Problematic, troublesome materials in laminates such as PET, PP, or EVOH have been removed from the laminate. The barrier functions are now undertaken by special coatings. Only printing inks and adhesives still affect the packaging’s recyclability. The use of more than 40 percent post-consumer recyclate marks an additional step towards a circular economy. This version is used in the non-food industry. Bischof+Klein also offers the option of using ISCC-certified material (chemically recycled or bio-circular) in the U-Pack®.

Bag features such as the divided carrying handle enhance the progressive overall packaging. This development reduces the freight volume by up to 20 percent and additionally enables both automated packing of the bags using a packing robot and automated removal at the customer’s premises. The magazine can be filled with a higher quantity. On the whole, logistics and transport costs along the supply chain are significantly reduced. The presentation of the German Packaging Award 2021 in the Logistics & Material Flow category confirmed this innovative approach.
