Rebhan has further enhanced its sustainability credibilities through the achievement of a silver award rating from Ecovadis placing the company in the top 25 per cent of evaluated companies from around the globe.

The German plastic packaging manufacturer has been integrating a number of new policies and practices throughout the past months which this year have culminated in the achievement of the well-known, coveted CSR award.

Environmental growth

Rebhan has been working in a number of different ways to facilitate 'kinder' actions towards the planet and as an ISCC certified company is supporting the scaling up of the circular economy and chemical recycling.  The ISCC certification also assures that Rebhan meets high sustainability requirements in the offer of recycled and bio-based material for its packaging.

Furthermore, Rebhan can ensure the traceability of the plastic resins used to produce cosmetic bottles and is therefore helping to improve waste management on a global basis.

Working under the ISO 50001 energy management system, the company's use of energy has been reduced to go beyond compliance with legal provision, and its use of resources has also reduced. These actions both save on resources by reducing waste as well as reducing energy requirements.

Rebhan has also developed new packaging solutions that fulfil different ecological demands. The Green Line of packaging incorporates beauty and personal care packaging that is ecologically friendly with bio-based material, Carbon black-free or PCR plastic, as well as refillable-, recyclable- and lighter-weight packaging options.

"Our Green Line of packaging is in line with our company's policy of 5Rs. We offer packaging that has a Reduced weight, can be Recycled or Reused, with Renewable materials and Refillable options. At a corporate level we have been Reducing our waste, Reusing material where possible and Recycling any excess. Our operations utilize the latest technology to be as efficient as possible."

In addition to reducing resources and energy efficiency, Rebhan's solutions also include the use of water-based lacquer and solvent-poor ink to ensure that its packaging can be recycled after use.

Human rights and ethics

Rebhan is a member of the GKV Code of Conduct which outlines specific ethical values and principles of dignity, fairness and honesty which must be adhered to along with human rights for health and safety that do not allow for the exploitation of any worker.

The company keeps employees up-to-date in their fields through regular coaching and training sessions to ensure that all staff work efficiently and effectively. And, the company's works council facilitates youth and trainee representation to ensure that there is full diversity to represent the company's interests. Rebhan also has close links with its local community and its charitable donations are made to local groups which support nearby families, enhancing their quality of life.

Roman Heinlein in Rebhan's Quality department commented: "Receiving a silver Ecovadis award is testament to our company's work. We've already made many improvements and there are others which are still in progress. As this work continues, we can't wait to see our achievements recognized further in the future."
