The House of Mugler and DIAM are reinventing the fragrance Fountain with a total eco-design concept.

In 1992, DIAM was behind the first generation of Mugler’s fragrance Fountains. Nearly 30 years later, for the fourth generation of the concept, the House of Mugler wanted a singular creation that breaks with the past. To do so, they involved DIAM’s design teams from the project’s first stages. This collaboration has resulted in a remarkable object dedicated to refilling the brand’s three emblematic fragrances – Aura, Alien and Angel – at the point-of-sale.

The challenges of this new adventure for the Mugler fragrance Fountain were both esthetic and technical and driven by a desire for a fully sustainable solution.

Suspended around a stainless steel mast, the new Fountain was conceived as a design object that is compact enough to be set up in a strategic position in the point-of-sale. Created to be a visual focal point inspired by a droplet, it is the fruit of a close collaboration between the creative teams at Mugler and DIAM.

A design that combines functionality and esthetics

Available in freestanding as well as counter-top versions, the Mugler Fountain allows perfect precision for in-store filling.

    When eco-design rhymes with emotion

“For this new Fountain, we used a global eco-design approach, reducing for example the thickness of the materials and prioritizing components that are easily separated (using screws instead of glue),” explains Bruno Blin, DIAM’s sales director. The entirety of the Fountain is treated to prevent corrosion – both on the inside and outside – to guarantee resistance to the juice and thus durability at the point-of-sale.

“We are proud to have been able to work together on this creation, combining our expertise with that of the teams at Mugler,” explains Pascal Saillant, DIAM’s creative director. “This object has become symbolic for all of us. Inspired by the world of Ross Lovegrove, the chrome surface is suggestive of a space station that the fragrance bottle “docks” into. This airy, feminine shape is like a sensual droplet that corresponds with the codes of Mugler.”

The new-generation Fountain will soon be installed at major perfumery chains including Sephora and Marionnaud. It has also been nominated for the Popai Awards 2019.
