Golden Artist Colors, Inc. began in June of 1980 in a 900 square foot, renovated barn. The company was established in order to embody Sam Golden's dedication to professional artists, by simply "making tools for artists." Golden Artist Colors is at the forefront of corporate social responsibility initiatives and wanted to switch to using containers with a high percentage of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in its paint containers. EmpireEMCO delivered, in a collaborative project.
The project was initially based on a simple request: reduce the environmental impact of the packaging used in the products offered by Golden Artist Colors. After turning to EmpireEMCO to spearhead the initiative, a set of containers were selected. Cortland Plastics was also brought on board for specific components. In the end, the new containers contain a minimum of 25% PCR, meaning that over a quarter of each container manufactured is made from existing materials, requiring no new material generation.
As a family-run business with a high level of ethics and a love of the environment, Golden Artist Colors was overjoyed with the results. The company is currently looking into new initiatives it can begin to reduce emissions further and offer even more environmentally-sensitive packaging.
