Nine of the Spanish Liderpack award-winners were ranked among the best packaging projects in the world

Nine of the eleven Liderpack winners that represented Spain at the WorldStar Awards 2018, the world's most important competition for the packaging industry, were distinguished with an award. This result puts the Spanish packaging in seventh position on the ranking of distinctions at this international competition, in which 318 packaging entries from 38 countries took part.

The Spanish winners were: ‘L'Amphore', a wine bottle made from glass and clay, by the design studio of Javier Garduño; ‘OneWorld Packaging, a compostable tray that minimises food waste; the ‘Mojitos Karibeño' sleeve by Ovelar; a cardboard box of kitty letter by Cartonajes International; the Estrella Galicia 0.0 welcome pack for the Spanish MotoGP by AC Pack, S.L.; the Munich ‘my way' trainer box which converts into a drawer by Miralles Cartonajes; ‘Bottelo', a wrapping that serves a cooler for transporting bottles, by SmartBag; ‘Insdinceutics Flavo-C Ultraglican', a case for single-dose ampoules of facial serum, by Durero Packaging; and ‘Cryovac Sealappeal PSF Zal', film for heat-shaping or heat-sealing fruit and vegetable trays, by Sealed Air Packaging.

The WorldStar awards, organised by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), recognise work that has previously won an award in its country of origin, which in the case of Spain are the Liderpack Awards organised every year by the Graphispack Association and Fira de Barcelona's Hispack trade show. The jury, made up of 16 representatives from packaging associations, decides whether a product is worthy of a WorldStar award by comparing it with other packaging in its category.

At this edition of WorldStar, some 200 awards were presented – a record figure for the event – in the categories of beverages, food, health and beauty, medicinal and pharmaceutical, household, electronics, point of purchase, logistics and others. The country with the most prizes was Japan (26), followed by India (24), China (14), Austria (11), Germany (10), Brazil (10), Spain (9) and the Czech Republic (9). The trophies will be presented at Australia's Gold Coast in Queensland on 2 May 2018 as part of the National Conference of the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP).

The general secretary of the Graphispack Association, Ignasi Cusí, who took part in the jury's meeting in November in Rio de Janeiro, applauded the excellent results achieved yet again this year by the Liderpack entries at the WorldStar event, a fact that underlines 'the very high standard of quality, innovation and design in Spanish packaging and its excellent international positioning,' he explained.
