HS Plastic, one of Asia's largest producers and distributors of packaging components to the Asian and European cosmetic markets, has released an interesting and surprisingly simple new mascara tube design that features a two stage applicator that provides full coverage and density for thick, full lashes.
The mascara features an insert that is used thusly:
Step 1 - The user unscrews the top-most portion of the applicator which draws the brush through the attenuating insert. This retains a lot of the thick product, providing a small amount of mascara on the brush for "base-coat" coverage.
Step 2 - The user inserts the long brush and unscrews the applicator and insert together, which leaves much more product on the brush. This gives the user the ability to apply a thicker coat of mascara on top of the already applied base, giving excellent total coverage.
The new systems also allows the make-up user to select what SORT of mascara coverage they want. The user can select Step 1 alone for basic, everyday coverage for work, Steps 1 and 2 together for thicker, elegant coverage that's perfect for dining out, or just Step 2 to create a more rebellious "Tarantula-eyes" effect that's a must when hitting a disco.
All in all, the new system is excellent for providing users with the ability to control how much product they use and what effects they want to create in a container that's inexpensive for cosmetic companies (it's a simple PS tube with an applicator brush and insert) to incorporate into their existing lines.
