Our egg packaging innovation Greenest has been recognized at De Gouden Noot, a Dutch competition for innovative packaging. Greenest was awarded for its novel use of raw material – it is made out of 50% natural grass and 50% recycled paper fibers. Having been recognized at the contest acknowledges the work put into the packaging. The unique trophy with a solid golden walnut is the symbol of the contest.

‘De Gouden Noot’ is a Dutch packaging innovation contest. Organizer NVC’s (the association of Dutch packaging experts) goal is to stimulate innovation in packaging and packaged products. The award is named after the unique solid golden walnut trophy that represents sustainable, effective and innovative packaging. The finalists of De Gouden Noot 2016 will be exhibited on the NVC stand at Interpack 2017 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

New fiber-based ready meal trays from Huhtamaki to replace black plastic for Waitrose & Partners

Waitrose & Partners launches its Italian ready meal range in the new fiber-based tray suited for both microwave and regular ovens. The new trays, called Fresh, are manufactured by the global food packaging specialist Huhtamaki, packed at Saladworks and the fiber used as the base material comes from the Swedish forest company Södra. The trays can be recycled, and they are also certified for home composting.

Huhtamaki opens a paper straw manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland

Huhtamaki celebrates today the opening of its new, state-of-the-art foodservice packaging manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland. The facility is located in the town of Antrim, near Belfast, and it is expected to employ approximately 100 people over the next few years. With the new facility Huhtamaki now has three manufacturing sites in Northern Ireland

Huhtamaki starts flexible packaging manufacturing in Egypt

New high-quality, sustainable paper straws

New tray design reduces egg breakage in Brazil’s demanding conditions

Our Brazilian Fiber Packaging team co-developed a new egg-tray for 30 eggs, Multi-E. Using an existing new product as a base for development, they made it better suited for the specific needs in Brazil. Within the project, our team also came up with a new raw material recipe.

Waitrose adopts fiber based ready meal packaging

Starting in October 2018 an extended trial version of a fiber-based, renewable, ready meal packaging will be piloted with customers in the UK. Huhtamaki is part of a three-party consortium developing an alternative to existing black plastic ready meal trays.

Huhtamaki has acquired the majority of Cup Print Unlimited Company, a privately-owned paper cup manufacturer based in the Republic of Ireland. Huhtamaki invests in a new manufacturing facility in Hämeenlinna, Finland

Huhtamaki is investing approximately EUR 11 million to have a new manufacturing facility built in Hämeenlinna, Finland. Manufacturing operations will be transferred from the current facility that has been built in the 60's to a new, modern facility. Construction work is planned to begin during spring 2018 and the new facility is expected to begin operations in spring 2019.
