Huhtamaki acquires the majority of CupPrint in Ireland

Huhtamaki has acquired the majority of Cup Print Unlimited Company, a privately-owned paper cup manufacturer based in the Republic of Ireland. With the acquisition Huhtamaki improves its access to the growing market of short run custom-printed cups and boosts its on-line commercial activity. The short run capability also allows Huhtamaki to even better support its current customers' promotional activities.

CupPrint is specialized in short run custom printed cups with quick delivery time. It has an on-line service model which allows efficient design and delivery of small volumes. CupPrint's annual net sales are approximately EUR 14 million and it employs altogether approximately 110 people in its manufacturing unit in Ireland and sales office in Germany.

The debt free purchase price for 70% ownership of CupPrint was approximately EUR 22 million. The business will be reported as part of the Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania business segment.

New fiber-based ready meal trays from Huhtamaki to replace black plastic for Waitrose & Partners

Waitrose & Partners launches its Italian ready meal range in the new fiber-based tray suited for both microwave and regular ovens. The new trays, called Fresh, are manufactured by the global food packaging specialist Huhtamaki, packed at Saladworks and the fiber used as the base material comes from the Swedish forest company Södra. The trays can be recycled, and they are also certified for home composting.

Huhtamaki opens a paper straw manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland

Huhtamaki celebrates today the opening of its new, state-of-the-art foodservice packaging manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland. The facility is located in the town of Antrim, near Belfast, and it is expected to employ approximately 100 people over the next few years. New tray design reduces egg breakage in Brazil’s demanding conditions

Our Brazilian Fiber Packaging team co-developed a new egg-tray for 30 eggs, Multi-E. Using an existing new product as a base for development, they made it better suited for the specific needs in Brazil. Within the project, our team also came up with a new raw material recipe.

Waitrose adopts fiber based ready meal packaging

Starting in October 2018 an extended trial version of a fiber-based, renewable, ready meal packaging will be piloted with customers in the UK. Huhtamaki is part of a three-party consortium developing an alternative to existing black plastic ready meal trays.

Huhtamaki invests in a new manufacturing facility in Hämeenlinna, Finland

Huhtamaki is investing approximately EUR 11 million to have a new manufacturing facility built in Hämeenlinna, Finland. Manufacturing operations will be transferred from the current facility that has been built in the 60's to a new, modern facility. Construction work is planned to begin during spring 2018 and the new facility is expected to begin operations in spring 2019.
