Huhtamaki acquires full ownership of its paper bag joint venture in Poland

Huhtamaki has acquired full ownership of its Polish joint venture company Huhtamaki Smith Anderson sp. z o.o. from Smith Anderson Group Ltd. (SA). The company manufactures and sells foodservice paper bags in Eastern Europe at Huhtamaki's facility in Czeladz, Poland.

Paper bags have become an increasingly important part of Huhtamaki’s product offering and the acquisition enables the company to invest in and further grow the business in Eastern Europe. The purchase price for additional shares and related manufacturing equipment is approximately EUR 2 million. The business has been reported as part of the Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania business segment since beginning of operations in 2018.

Waitrose & Partners launches its Italian ready meal range in the new fiber-based tray suited for both microwave and regular ovens. The new trays, called Fresh, are manufactured by the global food packaging specialist Huhtamaki, packed at Saladworks and the fiber used as the base material comes from the Swedish forest company Södra. The trays can be recycled, and they are also certified for home composting.

Huhtamaki opens a paper straw manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland

Huhtamaki celebrates today the opening of its new, state-of-the-art foodservice packaging manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland. The facility is located in the town of Antrim, near Belfast, and it is expected to employ approximately 100 people over the next few years. Huhtamaki starts flexible packaging manufacturing in Egypt

Waitrose adopts fiber based ready meal packaging

Starting in October 2018 an extended trial version of a fiber-based, renewable, ready meal packaging will be piloted with customers in the UK. Huhtamaki is part of a three-party consortium developing an alternative to existing black plastic ready meal trays.

Huhtamaki has acquired the majority of Cup Print Unlimited Company, a privately-owned paper cup manufacturer based in the Republic of Ireland. With the acquisition Huhtamaki improves its access to the growing market of short run custom-printed cups and boosts its on-line commercial activity. Huhtamaki invests in a new manufacturing facility in Hämeenlinna, Finland

Huhtamaki is investing approximately EUR 11 million to have a new manufacturing facility built in Hämeenlinna, Finland. Manufacturing operations will be transferred from the current facility that has been built in the 60's to a new, modern facility. Construction work is planned to begin during spring 2018 and the new facility is expected to begin operations in spring 2019.
