New fiber-based ready meal trays from Huhtamaki to replace black plastic for Waitrose & Partners

Waitrose & Partners launches its Italian ready meal range in the new fiber-based tray suited for both microwave and regular ovens. The new trays, called Fresh, are manufactured by the global food packaging specialist Huhtamaki, packed at Saladworks and the fiber used as the base material comes from the Swedish forest company Södra. The trays can be recycled, and they are also certified for home composting.

Huhtamaki opens a paper straw manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland

Huhtamaki celebrates today the opening of its new, state-of-the-art foodservice packaging manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland. The facility is located in the town of Antrim, near Belfast, and it is expected to employ approximately 100 people over the next few years. With the new facility Huhtamaki now has three manufacturing sites in Northern Ireland

Huhtamaki starts flexible packaging manufacturing in Egypt

Huhtamaki has inaugurated its new, state-of-the-art flexible packaging unit in Egypt. The investment marks the company's entry into manufacturing flexible packaging in Africa. Huhtamaki blueloop: Next generation flexible packaging drives for circularity

Global food and drink packaging leader Huhtamaki launches blueloop, a new range of recyclable flexible packaging made of mono-material PP, PE and paper. Huhtamaki blueloop solutions involve innovative polyolefin structures to pack coffee, snacks, dry food, personal care and other fast-moving consumer products. The range also includes paper-based solutions to replace plastic packaging.

New high-quality, sustainable paper straws

Straws are used by millions of people every day. With our new paper straws, we can offer our customers a sustainable choice and an excellent alternative to plastic straws. We have a long history in the use of sustainable materials for food packaging products. Our new paper straws are made of fiber coming from sustainably managed forests and 100% of the paper used in the straws and in their wrapping is PEFC certified. 

New tray design reduces egg breakage in Brazil’s demanding conditions

Our Brazilian Fiber Packaging team co-developed a new egg-tray for 30 eggs, Multi-E. Using an existing new product as a base for development, they made it better suited for the specific needs in Brazil. Within the project, our team also came up with a new raw material recipe.

Waitrose adopts fiber based ready meal packaging

Starting in October 2018 an extended trial version of a fiber-based, renewable, ready meal packaging will be piloted with customers in the UK. Huhtamaki is part of a three-party consortium developing an alternative to existing black plastic ready meal trays.

Huhtamaki acquires the majority of CupPrint in Ireland

Huhtamaki has acquired the majority of Cup Print Unlimited Company, a privately-owned paper cup manufacturer based in the Republic of Ireland. With the acquisition Huhtamaki improves its access to the growing market of short run custom-printed cups and boosts its on-line commercial activity. The short run capability also allows Huhtamaki to even better support its current customers' promotional activities.

Huhtamaki invests in a new manufacturing facility in Hämeenlinna, Finland

Huhtamaki is investing approximately EUR 11 million to have a new manufacturing facility built in Hämeenlinna, Finland. Manufacturing operations will be transferred from the current facility that has been built in the 60's to a new, modern facility. Construction work is planned to begin during spring 2018 and the new facility is expected to begin operations in spring 2019.
