Mondi, the international packaging and paper Group, supplies the automotive and automotive parts industries not only with a variety of customised packaging and specialised paper, but also with high-tech automotive interior materials made from extrusion coated multilayer complexes. At the FachPack trade fair on 27-29 September in Nuremberg, Germany, Mondiwill show its extensive range of state-of-the-art solutions for the automotive and other industries.

Customer focus, innovation and sustainability on display

For the first time at FachPack 2016, Mondi’s booth will feature an automotive corner to highlight the company’s expertise as a trusted full-range solution provider for the automotive industry. As with customers in other industries, Mondi works closely with automotive companies, using its technical know-how to create innovative, customised solutions. Mondi is able to combine elements of all its packaging and paper business areas to create solutions that meet the industry’s high requirements along the entire supply chain.

The focus on sustainability is another attractive aspect for the automotive industry as well as for other industries the company serves. For customers, the use of lightweight packaging made from renewable resources that are easier to recycle or dispose ofcan mean significant cost efficiencies.

Great ideas for automotive packaging that protects high-value goods

Today’s global automotive industry requires the safe and efficient shipment of auto parts ranging from bulky, heavy items to small, sophisticated electronics. To ensure these valuable products reach their destination safely, Mondi has developed innovative packaging solutions especially for automotive customers. These solutions are also lighter and more environmentally sustainable than some traditional forms of packaging.

Mondi’s packaging range for the automotive industry includes heavy-duty corrugated boxes, special frames and protector bags for vehicle parts, lightweight solutions for automotive panels, tapes, release liners and film-based solutions for temporary surface protection.

With its own Automotive Design Centre, Mondi develops customised corrugated packaging solutions based on 3D virtual product data. With product and packaging developments taking place in parallel, Mondi’s automotive customers benefit from greater flexibility and cost advantages in production planning and a time-based competitive edge.

Mondi offers numerous solutions for efficient and economic packaging of bulky automotive parts. The fully customised heavy duty corrugated constructions or containers for large, heavy and sensitive parts are made from high strength papers such as the 100% virgin ProVantage Kraftliner from Mondi. Corrugated packaging is a light weight alternative to wooden crates lowering the related shipping and disposal costs. Mondi Industrial Bags’ Protector Bag is a paper-based packaging concept made of Mondi’s Advantage Kraft sack kraft paper that, due to its paper strength and bag construction, is also ideal for packaging bulky auto parts. It offers original equipment manufacturers and second-tier suppliers high protection and potential cost savings for packaging large, bulky or rigid goods. Thanks to several layers of paper, the bags are well cushioned and highly impact resistant.

When it comes to liquids for the automotive industry, Mondi’s consumer goods packaging segment offers convenient and easy-to-handle spouted bags and pouches in various sizes. With excellent barrier properties, these packaging solutions not only protect the product but also the environment – due to less material, lighter weight and overall CO2 reduction compared to rigid alternatives.

The company also supplies the automotive industry with temporary surface protection films used to wrap new vehicles, creating the perfect lightweight shield to protect vehicles during transport and storage.

Extrusion-coated materials help drive the automotive industry

Though perhaps best known for packaging and paper products, Mondi’s extrusion-coated materials are also found in automobile interiors. These materials offer auto manufacturers a cost-competitive alternative to traditional materials. With its wide range of possible material combinations, high-quality solutions and modern technology, Mondi is a preferred development partner for automotive industry customers.

Mondi supplies extrusion coated material combinations for car headliners, hoodliners, carpets and other parts that require optimal barriers. These materials offer enhanced mechanical properties, such as dimensional stiffness, weight reduction and wear resistance, as well as acoustical barriers that improve the driving experience.  Pro-Therm® is Mondi’s lightweight extrusion-coated solution used in all kinds of car parts for structural stiffness and sound absorption.

Mondi Advanced Materials offers a PP Thin Film that supports the trend towards sustainable and lighter weight construction in the automotive industry. It is a polypropylene film that is thinner than traditional injection-moulded automotive parts and is used for auto interior features such as door panel map pockets.

Mondi supplies permanent surface coating films for the automotive industry, including primer films (lacquer substitution) and high quality decorative films for interior applications.

Visit the automotive corner at the Mondi booth at FachPack 2016 in Hall 7, Booth 254 to see how Mondi is driven by great ideas for the automotive industry.
