Mondi joins CELAB (Circular Economy for Labels), an industry-led initiative founded by companies in the self-adhesive label industry to create greater circularity for its products. By joining this consortium, Mondi will facilitate collaboration with partners along the industry’s value chain in order to facilitate the recycling of release liners.
Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper, has scooped six competency awards in the prestigious Turkish Crescents and Stars for Packaging 2020 Competition, organised by the Turkish Packaging Manufacturer’s Association. The company’s innovative approaches to sustainable and effective packaging solutions were recognised in four different categories:

Almost 280 different packaging products were assessed across the 13 award categories in the ninth Crescents and Stars for Packaging competition. The award wins demonstrate Mondi’s cross-market approach to packaging, spanning a range of industries and serving very diverse business and consumer audiences. The winners of the Crescents and Stars for Packaging Competition 2020 will be presented with Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies at a later date, once large scale gatherings are permitted due to the pandemic.
Cable Reel: Cable Reel is a functional two-pieces reel design made of corrugated cardboard. It is used for wrapping of plastic cables or wire. This environmentally-friendly solution is a sustainable substitute for plastic wrapping.
FloralBox solution: FloralBox is an e-commerce solution offering a modular system to securely ship potted plants of different types and sizes and in various combinations. Unilever Recyclable PP Base Soup packaging: A recyclable mono-material film product was created for Knorr’s dry soup powder range, replacing a multi-material laminate. The packaging preserves the shelf-life of the food product and works with existing production machines. The product was developed by Mondi to help Unilever stay committed to using

Orkla Metal Free Structure for Chips: Mondi’s metal-free high barrier laminate makes the packaging for Orkla Confectionery and Snacks Norway`s chips range recyclable by eradicating the need to include a metalised layer, retaining crispness and avoiding grease leakage.
Safe Bottle Box: Safe Bottle Box is designed to protect a single bottle from any impact during the e-commerce shipments. Thanks to the adjustable flap on the inner box, it can be adapted to bottles of different sizes.
One Piece: One Piece is an exhibition/display and transportation unit that provides advantages to the end consumer as well as to the manufacturer with its simple, shopping-friendly structure and its one-piece design.
Two products developed using Mondi’s EcoSolutions approach have been recognised: PerFORMing, a paper-based packaging with patented barrier for cheese slices, developed for Austrian retailer REWE, And a fully recyclable, mono-material thermoforming film for Austrian meat producer Hütthaler’s meat and sausage products. Mondi’s EcoSolutions approach focuses on developing products for customers using paper where possible and plastic when useful.
Leading packaging and paper manufacturer, Mondi, is launching a fully recyclable 80% paper-based packaging solution for cold meats and cheese. The new packaging will reduce plastic usage for Austrian dairy producer SalzburgMilch by approximately 40 tonnes per year, compared to its previously used rigid plastic trays.
AIM, the European Brands Association, has launched HolyGrail 2.0 with Mondi and other partners across the value chain to prove the viability of digital watermarking for sorting waste at scale. Postage stamp sized watermarks on packaging—which are not visible to the naked eye—make it possible to effectively sort the material into specific waste streams.

With these acquisitions, Mondi’s paper bag production volume in the country will increase by approximately 60-80 million bags annually. As part of the agreement, Mondi will become exclusive supplier of paper bags to Helwan Cement Company and InterCement Sacs.
Mondi partners with meat producer Hütthaler to create new fully recyclable plastic packaging
Mondi developed new recyclable mono-material film for thermoforming applications with Hütthaler and Hütthaler has launched the packaging for meat and sausage products in Austria, where the new thermoforming film is fully recyclable in existing plastic recycling streams.
Mondi Consumer Flexibles is set to enhance its printing & extrusion capabilities across plants in Aramil and Pereslavl while also improving service and flexibility to customers in Russia. Mondi Aramil will install a nine-layer co-extrusion line to produce high-barrier films by the end of 2020. Mondi’s FlexiBag Recyclable tickles Fido’s taste buds by keeping soft pet food fresh and succulent
Pet food maker Mera is the first to use Mondi's pre-made, mono-material, recyclable plastic FlexiBags for its semi moist dog food. A new 12.5 kg bag is the largest sustainable FlexiBag Recyclable on the pet food market and has officially been certified for recyclability by Institute cyclos-HTP. The bag features a special aroma and fat barrier as well as optimised palletisation and convenient reclosure.
Mondi's plant in Korneuburg, Austria ramps up production to supply packaging for the new to market SARS-CoV-2 test cartridge by QIAGEN. Mondi, Werner & Mertz partner on fully recyclable, award-winning StripPouch that supports a circular economy
Leading global packaging and paper group Mondi’s four-year effort with a customer – German cleaning products maker Werner & Mertz GmbH – to develop a fully recyclable, flexible, stand-up pouch for W&M’s Frosch-brand laundry detergent is paying dividends. The project applied Cradle to Cradle principles to assess every aspect of the product, from design to optimal end-of-life options, to close the packaging loop.
Mondi recently spun off a new, paper-based line of dog food packaging based on its FlexziBox concept, which until now had been entirely plastics-based. Longtime Mondi customer MERA Tiernahrung GmbH, a socially minded, mid-sized family company in Kevelaer, Germany, supplies private-label pet food to the German retailer Fressnapf Tiernahrungs GmbH.

New 3D varnish from Mondi adds the “wow” effect to flexible packaging materials at point of sale
Today’s consumers are drawn to unusual and appealing packaging designs and formats that stand out. Inspired by this trend, Mondi has recently created a special 3D varnish with haptic effects for enhanced shelf appeal at point of sale.
As a result of its customer focused research and development, Mondi’s technical films business has created and introduced a water soluble film for the smart and convenient packing and dosing of powders, tabs and granulates. Dissolving completely in water, the film is ideal for single doses of dry materials, such as dishwasher and laundry tabs or bath salts.
