Food safety is a topic that concerns and affects everyone. Food manufacturers, packaging materials suppliers, governmental agencies, regulatory bodies and consumers, among others, have a vested interest in the protection of food supply. Food safety is at the core of health and well-being on a worldwide basis.
The S.A.F.E auditing program began in 2002, with many large food companies in North America participating to meet the safety concerns of the food industry. Standards for packaging suppliers were developed in 2007. Respectable CPG companies, such as Del Monte, H.J. Heinz, General Mills, Hershey, to name a few, have been participants and promoters of this program throughout the food industry and its suppliers.
As a manufacturer of controlled dispensing closure systems used for dry foods, vitamins and supplements, and many other products and markets, Weatherchem is also a participant in the S.A.F.E. auditing program. The company is a strong proponent of maintaining high levels of food safety and security throughout the food supply chain.
In order to comply with S.A.F.E., Weatherchem has improved the following procedures:
- Strengthened policies regarding facility access
- Instituted a Chemical Tracking System in operations
- Performed Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point for Chemical, Physical, & Biological Hazards – Weatherchem has no hazardous points that need monitoring
- Established electronic upstream and downstream product traceability (two-hour trace maximum)
In May of 2010, Weatherchem underwent a third-party GMA-SAFE audit. The company has confirmed that it has received a certificate for fully meeting all categories. The results of this audit can be accessed online, which may save our customers time and money by eliminating the necessity of supplier audits.
