To complete a new pouch packaging a Meypack VP 451 packaging machine was installed for the Chobani company at its production facility in Australia. On this machine, pouches of flavoured yogurts ranging in size from 70g up to 140g at speeds up 180 pouches per minute are packed in 8 x 1 formations in wrap-around cases.

Products arriving in two lanes laying flat with the base of the short side leading, are positioned and cycled to the combining unit and each pouch is transferred into a pocket of a paddle chain where it is positioned on a side.

These products are gripped and gently transferred by gripping the products on the side out of the paddle chain towards the loading station of the packer. A guiding system including counter holding device prevents the products from falling.

After having reached this area the final pattern is positioned neatly on top of the descent table. Meanwhile a flat wrap-around case blank has been extracted from the blank magazine and positioned inside the machine precisely underneath the area where the final pattern of products will be placed prior to the folding operation.

When blank and products are positioned neatly on the loading plate of the filling / loading head, this device opens like a split trap-door and the final product configuration is placed on the blank which is positioned on the descent table. Here it is moved downwards into the shaping / forming tool of the machine, where the blank is folded around the products. While lowered down the formation of pouches is guided by tools during 1/3 of the process. Then the folded blank takes over.

After the descent table has reached its final bottom position, the product collation and the semi-folded blank are taken over by the machine cycle chain which step transfers the products and blanks through the glueing and compression station of the machine, where hot melt glue is applied to the flaps, which are then folded and pressed together. After the compression station a nicely squared and sealed wrap-around case is discharged from the machine.

The Meypack VP451 case packer is a very compact and efficient packing machine system capable of operating upto 30 cases per minute, depending on application.
