Schreiner MediPharm's new Needle-Trap labeling system makes syringes safer

Schreiner MediPharm, part of the larger, international Schreiner Group, is a firm with long-standing market experience that is intimately familiar with the needs and demands of the pharmaceutical and medical industries. This knowledge provides the basis for product development which often gives the company's customers a crucial competitive advantage.

One of Schreiner MediPharm's most recent additions to its extensive line of solutions for the medical sector is its innovative new labeing system which features an integrated safety mechanism that is a component of the self-adhesive syringe label. This simple, economical design allows the needle to be safely and easily secured after it has been used and enables healthcare providers to use the same injection technique and disposal process as before. This functional label innovation has received FDA 510(k) clearance for marketing in the U.S. and has won an award from FINAT, the international label manufacturers’ and converters’ association.

To test user acceptance of Needle-Trap, Schreiner MediPharm performed a market survey in the U.S. and Europe involving 239 nurses and doctors. The results confirmed the solution's high level of user acceptance: 91% of those surveyed rated the Needle-Trap system as "excellent/very good" and 94% said they would “recommend Needle-Trap” to their healthcare organizations.

Further, 92% of survey participants rated the reliability of Needle-Trap’s safety mechanism as "very good" and 92% also said that Needle-Trap was "easy to use", due to its simple design and the fact that it offers healthcare providers a clear, unobstructed view of the needle and the syringe contents. This allows healthcare workers to continue using their usual injection technique and maintain complete control over the injection process.

The Needle-Trap system is also extremely economical for pharmaceutical companies to adopt, as its safety element has been incorporated right into the label.  The labels can be processed on existing conventional labeling lines after making only minor equipment modifications and no additional space adjustments. Needle-Trap labels can also be processed on high speed systems that run up to 400 units per minute without any productivity constraints. Additionally, the integration of these labels does not require any secondary packaging changes. Compared to alternative products, the low unit purchasing cost of Needle-Trap in combination with its high user acceptance, make the Needle-Trap system the ideal choice for safe, disposable syringes.
