Silgan Dispensing’s Pearl 2 certified ‘completely recyclable’

  • Silgan Dispensing Systems

Silgan Dispensing, a global leader in design and manufacture of highly engineered pumps and sprayers in the beauty, fragrance, personal care, home, and healthcare markets, announced its Pearl 2 airless system has received the highest recyclability rating from the Institute Cyclos-HTP.

Institute Cyclos-HTP is an expert in the classification, assessment and certification of the recyclability of packaging and goods as well as research and development in this area. Based on their criteria, Cyclos-HTP certified Pearl 2 with a AAA+ ‘Completely Recyclable’ rating for the material used in the polypropylene (PP) package. The certification affirms its recyclability in select Western European countries*.

“Pearl 2 was designed to meet the needs of today’s consumers – who continue to rate sustainability and e-commerce as top-of-mind criteria when making purchasing decisions,” said John Ferro, Vice President of Marketing and Innovation. “With its high quality performance and improved compatibility, Pearl 2 will help brand owners in the Beauty and Personal Care markets deliver a great consumer experience while supporting their sustainability goals.”

Pearl 2 features Silgan Dispensing’s patented LifeCycle TM technology. This revolutionary plastic spring technology enables the removal of non-recyclable materials and metal, which means the dispenser is made almost entirely of a single polyolefin. This next generation airless system provides a range of benefits for brand owners and their customers, including superior formula protection, a high evacuation rate and e-commerce certification among others.

Silgan Dispensing announced Pearl 2 at last year’s Luxe Pack Monaco and will be available for purchase this July. Pearl 2, along with the rest of the company’s portfolio of sustainable dispensing solutions, will be showcased at the ADF&PCD trade show on June 29 and 30 in Paris.

Why standardization is key to driving sustainability across the packaging industry

Silgan Dispensing is a member of Cetie, and several members of our team are involved with its various working groups, including one that focuses on screw necks or glass bottles: the Flaconnage Geometry Group. We recently talked with Juan Albi, project team leader for Silgan Dispensing’s beauty and personal care, and Sandy Gregory, director of fragrance marketing, to share about our company’s relationship with Cetie and how new standards are driving sustainability across the industry.

How has the pandemic impacted consumers' use and relationship with fragrances?

The impact scent can have on a mood and overall sense of wellbeing is nearly impossible to overstate. One fragrance can elicit feelings of coziness and comfort, while another can give a person a sense of luxury and distinction. Given the seemingly endless variations of fragrances and personal uses, it’s no surprise the fragrance market has seen such steady profitability in recent years – at least, prior to COVID-19.
