Don't forget your highlighter - this season's top trend

  • Virospack

When we think of Spring/Summer make-up, we always picture radiant, dewy skin, tanned cheeks and a pretty pastel colour palette. Whilst these looks remain a permanent summer essential, this year summer comes loaded with new glittering and metallic looks: electric pink lips, golden shine on eyelids, eyebrows and lashes, and white eyeliner returns to enlarge the eyes... but if there is one essential product this season, it is undoubtedly the highlighter.

Highlighter has been used for a long time, although it has never been as fashionable as it is now. Previously confined to the catwalks, contouring has now made illuminated skin a staple of any make-up look this season. Following this trend, the market has flooded with products offering lightening, brightening and glitter effects as consumers have jumped on board with this look - unsurprisingly since highlighter provides the perfect finishing touch to any makeup look and is extremely easy to use.

There are a vast range of highlighting products available on the market with a wide variety of textures and colours, and Virospack's cosmetic droppers offer dedicated followers of the trend an easy way to apply liquid illuminator.

What are the different highlighters available?

Powder highlighters
These are the best known luminzer products and offer a range of tones which can be built up from subtle to more potent. Powder highlighters are ideal for oily skin, and they can be used on top of a make-up base, or alone to illuminate the face's high points.
Tips: For a natural finish, blend it with a brush.

Liquid highlighters
Liquid highlighters are the most versatile illuminating product. Their fluid formula makes them easy to blend into the skin to give a natural glow. As they are applied in drops a dropper is the ideal applicator for greater precision and ease-of-use, and Virospack offers decoration options to ensure the pack is a highlight on the shelf!
These highlighters work with any skin type and create the illusion of skin that glows from within. They never appear dry thanks to their hydrating liquid formula.
Tips: Liquid highlighters can be used under base makeup for a natural look when combined with a low-coverage foundation. When applied on top of the base they give a more dramatic effect and are best focused on the cheekbones, nose and chin to enhance the features.

Cream highlighters
Cream highlighters cover the middle-ground between powder and liquid highlighters, offering a denser and creamier texture that makes their use more specific. They can be applied on top of base makeup before any mattifying powders. Because of their interesting texture, they can be packaged in several different formats, such as in a stick container or a compact. Cream highlighters are especially recommended for dry skin.

Highlighters with glitter particles
Many highlighter products contain glitter particles in their formula, giving a soft shimmer to any look. This glitter highlights the skin and is often thought of as a night-time look, although it gives an equally beautiful effect when worn in the day. This Spring and Summer season, daring peach and terracotta tones can be worn at any time of the day and can even double up for use as eye shadow.

Highlighters with a pearlescent shine
Pearlescent highlighters do not contain glitter particles, instead they produce a more natural glow for a subtle and elegant look of radiance day and night.

Matte highlighters
This type of highlighter does not produce a shiny effect on the skin, but instead is used to visually elevate certain areas of the face. This highlighter is essential in any professional makeup kit as well as being a great introduction to highlighting and contouring for the uninitiated.

Join in with the highlighter trend. Highlight your face. Highlight your attributes. Highlight your beauty.
