Job Description

Produce the Finest Quality Liquid Color Concentrates in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Duties:


  Weighing / Mixing  
1.    Upon review of production order, gather the specified raw materials in preparation of manufacturing, making sure to double check raw material descriptions, Badger raw material numbers, and double-checking each quantity weighed, to ensure accuracy. 
2.    Clean kettles and mixers and the general mixing area after each job.  Watch for and prevent contamination.
3.    Mix the batch on an appropriate mixer, ensure thorough scraping and mixing and purge gate, document batch information; weights, temperature(s), time, etc.
4.    Take a sample to quality control.
5.    Weigh, add, and mix any quality control adjustment additives required.  Repeat steps 3-5 as needed.
6.    Once approved by quality control department, transfer mixing container to packaging department.
   
  Packaging
1. Prepare a clean screen assembly to filter liquid color during packaging.
2. Upon Q.C. approval, package liquid product into specified containers (Pails, Drums, or Totes), verifying the liner, lance, and tube-set requirements are met.
3. Follow the step by step PACKAGING INSTRUCTIONS for BADGER LIQUID PRODUCTS list.
4. The packaging MUST be clean.  NO liquid splatters or smears, or dust or dirt. CLEAN.
5. Weigh and label each container, then stage the order for shipment.
6. Keep floor and equipment VERY clean At ALL Times.
 
Additional Responsibilities
1.Assist other production employees (buddy system) with handling, or lifting heavy loads, running orders, and cleaning work stations and production areas.
2.Serve as backup to other Technicians for break times, lunch, and in the event of absences.
3.Maintain a safe, clean work area during shift and prior to shift change.
4.Keep all raw materials and chemicals covered and labeled.
5.Adhere to all safety policies/procedures, using all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.   
6.Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
7.Assist with training of new employees.
8.Drive Forklift.

Qualifications, Experience, Requirements

1.    High school diploma or equivalent.
2.    1-3 year’s prior experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.  Plastics industry experience is highly desirable.
3.    Exhibits competent reading, legible writing skills, is able to pass pre-employment basic math, weighing/measurement tests, a drug screen, and any physical exams as required (auditory).
 
Physical Demands:

  1. Frequent walking, standing, stepping /climbing up and down platforms stairs, and other physical activity to include:  bending, squatting, occasional twisting, and upward or downward reaching. 
  2. Lift or carry up to53 pounds frequently.  With good judgment lift 53 to 70 pounds occasionally (buddy system available).  Tip and roll up to 500 pounds or more occasionally (using “buddy” system, or barrel dolly for these weights) to put order onto pallet to transport for final weighing and shipping.
  3. Other requirements include excellent depth perception, and strong hand-eye coordination.

Job Description

To analyze  plastic color concentrate for color/quality to Badger &/or Customer specifications.  This is done by weighing up various raw materials or actual concentrate and molding it with specified resin. 
 
Essential Duties:

  1. Weigh-up and mix batches, and produce color chips using 2-roll mill, and injection or blow-molding machines.
  2. Evaluate color / quality by referring to history (i.e., what has shipped), and/or the spectrophotometer, asking questions (from more experienced technicians) in cases of uncertainty.
  3. Make adjustments to colors not within tolerance by using the spectrophotometer software, lab shots, history details (i.e., previous batches that required similar corrections) and experience.
  4. Access and comprehend applicable procedures, such as QI001for what Badger calls ‘QC’ing,” or “Special Instructions,” which are listed on the batch tickets.
  5. Clean work area as needed.
  6. Fill supply cabinets with fresh supplies.
  7. File folders, chips, paperwork.

 
Additional Responsibilities:
 

  1. Assist with sample production, various product tests (i.e., melt-flow, ash test, moisture analysis, etc).
  2. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Qualifications, Experience, Requirements

1.   High school diploma or equivalent preferred.   1-2 years prior experience in a lab environment preferred and
       plastics industry experience highly desirable
2.   Ability to see color accurately (Farnsworth-Munsell test given when interviewing – prefer maximum 20 for matchers).
3.   Strong basic math and measurement skills, positive attitude, enthusiasm and good verbal communication skills.
 
Physical Demands:
 

  1. Frequent walking, standing, and other physical activity to include:  bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching upward and outward.   
  2. Lift 10 to 20 lbs. frequently, 20-40 lbs. occasionally, and more than 40 lbs. with assistance if required.   
  3. Other requirements include excellent number and depth perception, strong eye-hand coordination and  competent reading abilities.

Join our team at Badger Color Concentrates, Inc. located approx. 26 miles southwest of Milwaukee in Mukwonago, WI. just off Hwy.43. We are a growing manufacturer of liquid color and color concentrates used in plastics industries by blow mold, extrusion, and injection molding companies.

Train on 1st Shift with our Lead Mechanic for 1-3-three months to troubleshoot, perform repairs and preventative maintenance on all facility equipment in production and the lab. Upon successful completion of training period this individual is assigned to 2nd shift working independently, fulfill assigned maintenance work orders, respond to any production or lab equipment concerns, diagnosing, and repairing as soon as is possible.

Essential Duties: 1. Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair all lab and production equipment: molding machines, mixers, extrusion machines, forklifts, floor scrubbers, etc. and performs typical building / facility upkeep. 2. Other skills/responsibilities include: light hydraulics, pneumatics, metal fabrication, and welding, machine re-work and install, forklift repair, strong electrical troubleshooting and electrical repair. 3. Daily duties include: a. forklift inspection, documentation, and repair if necessary b. documentation on log sheets of all shift maintenance activity c. work orders completed and are turned in for all assigned or emergency repairs completed d. passing along information pertaining to all work order/in-process job status during shift transition. 4. Perform preventative maintenance on all lab and production equipment 5. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Wage range is: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour depending upon prior experience in the plastics industry.  Shift premiums are:   $.35/hr. for 2nd shift.
Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 3-5+ years maintenance experience preferably in plastics industry environment (extrusion or injection molding machinery). Strong electrical diagnostics and wiring background, proficient metal fab and welding experience. General knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, etc. safety regulations for a manufacturing environment.  Sorry no relocation package will be offered.

Physical Demands: frequent walking, standing, climbing up and down platforms/ladders, bending, squatting, twisting and extensive reaching. Occasional exposure to fumes, noise, chemical solvents, pigments, resins, dust and dirt. You should be able to wear a ½ face respirator, drive a forklift and lift 10 – 25 lbs. frequently, 25 – 70 lbs. occasionally, and utilize the buddy system for heavier weights.
