    Bergen Plastics

    Bergen Plastics

Experts in high performance polymer packaging solutions.

    Bergen Plastics manufacture high-volume packaging and medical supplies. We achieve this through;

    Injection moulding

After a product is designed, metal moulds are made by a toolmaker and precision-machined to form the features of the desired part.

We produce parts by injecting polymers into the mould. Material is fed into a heated barrel, mixed, and forced into a mould cavity, where it cools and hardens to the configuration of the cavity.

Products must be very carefully designed to facilitate the moulding process; the material, along with the desired shape and the properties of the moulding machine must be taken into account. The versatility of injection moulding is facilitated by this breadth of design considerations and possibilities.

    Prototyping

An early sample of the product, either 3d printed or manufactured using a prototype mould. A prototype acts as a product for testing or replication. A low cost method for analysis towards design, usability and moulds.

Prototyping serves to provide specifications for real, working systems rather than theoretical ones. In our workflow, we create prototypes as a step between the formalization and the evaluation of an idea.

    Automated robotic assembly

Bergen Plastics benefit from high levels of automation in our factories. We achieve high volume output due to time-saving and precise robotic assembly. Assembly in the manufacturing process consists of putting together all the component parts and subassemblies of a given product. Assembly includes fastening, performing inspections and functional tests, labeling, separating good assemblies from bad, and packaging and/or preparing them for final use. Our robotic systems are delivered by WEMO and IML.

    Quality management

Ensures that an organization, product or service is consistent. It has four main components: quality planning, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. Quality management is focused not only on product and service quality, but also on the means to achieve it. Quality management, therefore, uses quality assurance and control of processes as well as products to achieve more consistent quality. Bergen Plastics adhere to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and its Quality Management System (QMS).

    Project management

We plan, organize, motivate and control resources to achieve our goals and meet specific success criteria. A project is a temporary endeavor designed to produce a unique product, service or result with a defined beginning and end (usually time-constrained, and often constrained by funding or deliverables) undertaken to meet unique objectives to bring about beneficial change or added value.

The primary challenge of project management is to achieve all project goals and objectives while honoring the preconceived constraints. The primary constraints are scope, time, quality and budget.

    Industrial design

The process of applying design to products that are to be manufactured through techniques of mass production. Its key characteristic is that design is separated from manufacture: the creative act of determining and defining a product's form takes place in advance of the physical act of making a product, which consists purely of repeated, often automated, replication. This distinguishes industrial design from craft-based design, where the form of the product is determined by the product's creator at the time of its creation.

    In-mould labeling (IML)

The use of plastic labels during manufacturing of containers by injection molding. The label serves as an integral part of the final product, which is delivered as a pre-decorated item. Combining the decoration process with the moulding process cuts total cost, but can increase manufacturing time.

Bergen Plastics employ static electricity for handling the labels. Electrostatic charging electrodes charge a label while it is being transferred to the moulding machine, so that when the label is placed on the tool and released by the labelling robot, it will wrap itself onto the mould.

    Engineering

The application of mathematics, empirical evidence and scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge in order to invent, design, build, maintain, research, and improve structures, machines, tools, systems, components, materials, and processes.
The discipline of engineering is extremely broad, and encompasses a range of more specialized fields of engineering, each with a more specific emphasis on particular areas of applied science, technology and types of application.

    Logistics

Products are delivered according to customer specifications both in terms of lead time, configuration and packaging standards.

Our capacious storage facilitiy is designed to keep the products safe from contaminations and damage. We deliver products either Just In Time or from an agreed stock level. Stock levels are often used when the quantities are impossible to predict for our customers and deliveries are required immediately upon receiving orders. Products can in these cases be exported and delivered the following day as a standard routine shipment.

    Lab services

Complete range of analyses for polymers, plastics and composites. We can provide analytical services from basic characterization of materials to investigations of complex problems.

Our polymer analysis and materials science capabilities range from obtaining basic information to more detailed and structurally specific results. Depending on our clients' needs, we can offer a strategic combination of physical and chemical testing to answer specific questions. Physical properties analyzed included:

    • Tensile properties
    • Adhesive strength
    • Compressibility
    • Cross-sectional multiple layer-film thickness
    • Thermal properties (including glass transition, melting point, thermal expansion and crystallinity)
