Recognising the changes in market needs has been a key factor in Berisfords continued success. 'The big changes in the business have probably happened in the last 10 years or so. The business mainly supplied haberdashery products for retail, but the packaging area is a very important part of the business.'
'The reason Berisfords is still here is that we've always moved ahead of market trends. For example, we were developing in packaging well before other people did and we are always looking forward. That said, we have not neglected the traditional wholesale market either.'
The company also has the ability to offer a bespoke service to customers, incorporating anything the client requires, be it their own pattern on a ribbon, to logos and labels.
Competition from the Far East has seen many UK textile businesses disappear. But Berisfords policy of continuing to manufacture products in Congleton has paid off with many customers.
'A few years ago, if you said that was the way we were going, to remain in the UK, people would think you mad. But it's turned out to be the right policy and I think it's all down to quality and service'
The flexibility of the workforce and the ability to provide a quality bespoke service to customers while continuing to provide a truly competitive product seems to be the way ahead for Berisfords future. 'If the customer wants it, then the answer is 'yes', and we will move heaven and earth to ensure they get it.'
