Coster has just announced the signature of an agreement with Catalent Pharma Solutions for the development and construction of a line designed for filling pMDIs (pressurized Metered Dose Inhalers).  The high-output state-of-the-art line will be part of Catalent’s currently expanding Inhalation Center of Excellence in Research Triangle Park (RTP), N.C, USA.

The filling line will have a capacity of 150 cans per minute and will incorporate Coster’s proprietary technology, aimed at meeting stringent quality standards and advancing process robustness, continuity and consistency.  The new line is part of Catalent’s $20 million investment at the site which will expand existing capabilities and will further enhance Catalent’s ability to provide clients with integrated "molecule to market" turnkey solutions.

"The expansion at RTP is set for completion in the first quarter of 2015 and will at least double the capacity in the short term, to more than 20 million units annually, with the potential for much more over the long term," commented Christie Dolan, Vice President and General Manager of Catalent’s Development and Clinical Services business.

Features of the main filling line include:

  • Cutting-edge camera vision systems for validation of crimping parameters using statistical analysis;
  • Coster Air-Q system controlling the environment within an integrated clean room system by continuously blowing sterile air into key areas of the manufacturing process.

This is a milestone achievement for Coster as it reinforces its presence in the US market and helps strengthen its role in this regulated market.
