Our Purpose
Energizer Holdings is leading the charge to connect our brands, our people and the products we offer to the world better than anyone else. With a passion for winning, we’re building a bright future that’s focused on delivering long-term value to our shareholders, consumers and customers.
So what allows us to pull this off? For starters, we focus on prioritizing winning customers, channels and markets. Our strategic choices allow us to maximize our revenue potential and win with customers and consumers. It’s why our brands are ranked #1 or #2 in most markets where we compete across the globe.
Next, we set clear goals – and work hard to achieve them. Through a steady pipeline of innovation, best-in-class category fundamentals, and optimized operational execution, we’re poised to deliver long-term value and success.
Finally, we are committed to driving long-term value for our shareholders. All of our efforts are designed to complement and support the overall financial health of the company.
Responsibility
Our approach to corporate responsibility all boils down to one simple thought: “Do the right thing.” And we have developed a three-part approach to help bring it about.
First is a focus on reducing the impact our company and products have on the environment. Through various efforts including product development, packaging, recycling and outreach programs, we are careful to make choices that ensure the availability of natural resources for generations to come.
The second part reflects the fact that we care about society. So we focus on making a positive impact on our local communities, including providing safer work environments for our colleagues and participating in various partnerships, colleague-led grassroots programs and volunteer efforts globally.
Third, but equally as important, is our commitment to our shareholders. All of our efforts on behalf of the environment and our communities are also designed to complement and support the overall financial health of the company.
Environmental Responsibility
From more responsible product development to packaging and recycling efforts to various outreach and grassroots programs, we have never been afraid to lead the way.
In fact, back in the 1970s our wastewater effluent standards were exemplary enough to become the model for those of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency itself. In the 1990s, we led the industry in eliminating mercury and cadmium from household batteries. And more recently, we have taken even more proactive steps to minimize the impact of our products and manufacturing processes.
Energizer proactively addresses environmental, social and economic considerations at the earliest stages of product development.
As with all facets of our business, we are always actively searching for ways to improve our efforts. We know that conservation is an ongoing challenge that can never be considered done, and must be continuously improved upon.
Recycling
We put a strong emphasis on innovation and emerging technologies in all aspects of our business – and recycling efforts are no exception.
All our facilities work with third-party recycling companies to collect the various wastes from our operations and maximize the separation, cleaning and re-sale to companies that will manufacture other products. We divert millions of pounds annually from landfills. In fact, our sites in Asheboro, North Carolina, are now approaching landfill-free.
In the case of batteries, we initiated efforts to better educate consumers on how to make smarter choices for their specific device need. This helps maximize efficiency and use fewer batteries – ultimately having a lower impact on the environment.
Social Responsibility
We are a company of thoughtful, caring people and the social focus of our sustainability efforts reflects this.
To support those in need in the communities where we live and work, the Energizer Giving Foundation was established to help serve our communities around the world.
Because many of our colleagues are very active with charities of their own choosing, we provide a matching gift program that empowers all global colleagues to make a greater difference by matching their charitable contributions dollar-for-dollar. We also provide significant contributions to help the United Way fulfill its mission to strengthen the communities in which we live and work.
In addition to participating in local volunteer events, our colleagues are also active in many of the partnership programs our brands participate in around the world.
Colleague Safety
We care about our colleagues and anyone who enters one of our workplaces. Our motto at manufacturing sites is “Safety First”. We feel that by leading with safety in everything we do, we are engaging and empowering our greatest asset, our colleagues.
Our three largest work sites in North American have been recognized by the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for their programs, employee engagement and low injury rates.
To put that in context, out of 15 million workplaces in the U.S., approximately 2300 have earned VPP recognition, which includes our U.S. manufacturing facilities in Bennington, Vermont and Asheboro, North Carolina Plants 1 & 2. The same safety programs utilized by these sites are adopted globally to maintain a high standard for performance.
