Multi-Wall Packaging was founded as The Real Reel Corporation in 1922 by John C. Dunn, to manufacture cloth winding reels for the retail fabric industry. The company was located in East Providence, RI. By 1982, the second generation of the Dunn family had grown revenues to $4,000,000 and had added an additional manufacturing facility in Salisbury, NC. At this time the company continued to exclusively produce cloth winding reels.
Since 1982, as a third generation family business, the Company put increased focus on aggressively growing the business. The Company’s growth strategy began with the acquisition of competitor National Reel in 1982 and Multi-Wall Packaging in1983. The Company’s distribution business, National Packaging Supply, was founded in 1984 in East Providence, RI. With these new growth avenues the Company’s product and service offering continued to evolve significantly. Multi-Wall was acquired by ITW in April, 2011. In February 2014, ITW announced that is has signed definitive agreement to sell its Industrial Packaging Segment named Premark Packaging(which includes Multi-Wall Packaging) to The Carlyle Group. The sale became final on May 2014. Multi-Wall's management remains the same.
