The amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans is shocking, but there are actions we can all take to help.

The majority of marine litter comes from land-based sources, from countries with poor waste management. 2 billion people don't have access to solid waste collection, which means that waste can easily end up in open dumps or disposed of directly into waterways.

Another cause of plastics in our ocean is littering. Changing our attitudes to littering, so that it is viewed as totally unacceptable, is an important first step we can all take in the drive to make our oceans cleaner. Fishing nets and micro plastics from textiles and tyres are just a few of the many other items, that find their way into our oceans. Governments, businesses and individuals have a role to play to tackle this worldwide problem. At RPC, we support initiatives that focus on reducing litter, alongside making our products as widely recyclable as possible.
